No, "technically" he can't. His 10 hour break doesn't begin until he goes off duty or enters the sleeper berth. If he's working a 2nd job after his driving shift ends, he's still on duty and therefore NOT on his 10 hour break. If his driving job expects him back and ready to roll in 10 hours after parking his rig, then he cannot legally have a second job because he would not legally complete a 10 hour break.

Pretty sure we are on the same page arguing different points. I took your statement to mean that if his driving shift ends at 9pm and he wants to go to work at 6am that he can't do that because he would be interrupting his 10 hours....legally he can.
Since OP mentioned he would be working during his hometime I wouldn't think he was parking for a night. Work a 2nd job during his 10 and expect to get back on his rig....of course he needs a 10 which is what I also said. -
2. He can drive for as long as he is of sound mind and body too. (Taking into account, common sense and good judgement and not driving to the point of excess fatigue)
3. If the OP knows when he needs to be (Or required to be) back on duty, all he needs to do is back up 10 hrs. (Granted, he'll have to total up his hours to ensure he can run off a recap)
4. The ideal situation is if the OP has several days off from CMV driving, works his other job, knows when he must be available for work for his primary CMV duties and back up 34 hrs or more. That's when he should begin his "Off Duty" time. He now has a fresh clock and a full 70 hrs to return to work with.
