Hi guys ..I was a O/o for Schneider ..i was picking my own freight of their board and such..The choice program is what SNI calls it..i worked for SNI since 07/2010 ..was a very good experience actually had no complaints..in the beginning i went in with my own truck..then traded it for a new Cascadia .. now..everything was good up until mid January ..I got sick as a dog, i couldn't breathe, cough, runny nose.Basically i had the flu..did my drop in New milford,ct then bobtailed home. Stayed home for 3 days..felt a lil better..I went back on the board picked me some loads and i was ready to roll . I make my way to the truck ..i open the door and i see my passenger side window was broken ..yea..so anyways they robbed me..like everything..i had left my GPS in there my camera ..These dudes took everything electronically related from in there..pissed off now ..i had to call the loads off me..called Insurance they got a safe-lite guy to come out there and fix the window..2 days later i was ready to go..get on the board picked some loads..HERE COMES THE BOOM lol..crazy snow storm came in the northeast ..they put travel bans from 2300 till the next morning . Now..i had called SNI told them i can't move..i'm staying home..they got a travel ban in NYC and NJ..the after hour ppl said ok..just call us when u can start moving again..we know..the next day it was still snowing ..called them again and told them ..once the snow stops and they clean the streets a lil ..i will get going..now usually what Schneider will do is they will take the loads off u and try to reschedule it..they didn't do that..they left it on me. i said ok fine..thinking they probably knew about the dam snow storm loll ..so then now its wed..i call SNI and say ..ok i'm ready to go..i gave them my eta to my loads..and then the girl said..hold on the ICA wants to talk to u ..he's basically the manager.. he gets on the phone..first thing he says .."u know that's grounds for termination right ?" i said what is ?he says..You didn't call me and tell me what was going on ..i said i called ..not u..but i called SNI ..he said and i quote him"you were supposed to deliver that load by the 26th" i said ..Yea i know..but there was a dam snow storm and that load was going to PA.. i called and said ..i will not go out there cuz there's a darn blizzard out there..he said..no i didn't get any phone calls from u ..i said..man check ur dam records and you'll see i called ..then he went on to say i didn't communicate which i find crazy cuz i called SNI..i just didn't call him..i never do..no1 does ..whenever we got load issues we call dispatch ..not him..he's just there if we need him for other stuff..like authorization for tire purchases or something..so anyways.. he goes on mocking me and telling ..what ?u were buried in snow or something? u couldn't deliver the load?..i'm like hey man...if ur gona fire me for not going out there in a dam blizzard ..do it already cuz u know what??i'd do it again tomorrow. .So then he says ..yea i kinda made up my mind..i'm like ok fine. and that was it !now did i do anything wrong here guys ??would u guys done something differently ?i never actually thought SNI would even want u to move in situations like that? i was really shocked . The reason why i told u guys the whole story since i got sick is ..cuz it's kinda crazy how everything worked out like that. .I'm thinking of calling safety @ Sni or human resources or whatever..I just wanted to make sure i wouldn't sound crazy saying it. What do u guys think ?

no you weren't wrong for it no load is worth the risk swift dispatchers have been fired for trying to make drivers drive during weather like what we go and the same probly for sni.

No not wrong either IMO. Many carriers have an internal policy about missing loads and time off. It makes no exceptions for what you spoke of....it's just the policy like lose assigned truck if off for more than 3 days or fired if you miss load etc.

Only thing I would have done different is not accepted load or make dispatch take load off me. That's where they got you.

In the rawest form you accepted a load and didn't deliver it . Don't matter why not cause you're not dead. The ICA probably wasn't told either and got his arse chewed by the regional boss.

You can probably salvage deal but you will have to go over his head and if you win then work elsewhere or get a different ICA. Any chance you documented the calls like who and date / time ?

Knowing this is how they will act....are they worth it? Might be a good time to realign the business model.

Your mistake was not following up with your ica or someone in your ica group, support shift is worthless.

Your options now are going to the head of ica's at your terminal and explaining what happened or just move your truck somewhere else .

By the way you should of went to your truck and sent a message outlining the situation too.
Schenider does a have a your the captain of your ship policy.

I get whether alerts on the QC along with the captain of the ship statement all they ask is you let them know that your shutting down .

Things must have changed at Schneider since I left. One quick call to my driver/fleet manager would have put that clown in his place. We used to be told repeatedly not to operate in unsafe conditions. Any load situation like yours should have been strictly over the QualCom to keep both sides honest. Our fleet manager always told us not to get on the phone after hours if we could avoid it unless it involved a accident. I think you handled yourself ok. Definitely call safety and report that "a" hole.

I remember a incident with JB Hunt. There was a bad snow/ice storm nailing northeast. I went to Emporia to pick up my truck at the terminal and found out that they had assigned me a pre-loaded trailer heading to NH. I Qualcom'd the situation, and I was told by the "after hours" to get the truck as close as I could and wait it out. I refused to take that load because there were about 6 other loaded trailers on the yard that were going to other areas. They refused to take the load off of me and told me to get rolling.

Yeah Right! I wasn't about to be stuck with a few thousand other trucks running around looking for parking. I went back home to Virginia Beach for a couple days. They called me at home and told me that they filed a written warning....or what ever they call it, and told me to get back to Emporia asap! I laughed them off and took a few more days off to go Striper fishing. I hated that company.

    To the o/p.

As I see it, you did not CYA by maybe perhaps sending a Qualcomm as a record of message sent. Then you did not follow up with someone MORE in authority than the one's you had dealt with. If you liked working there, and was earning some good money, then you really ought to call them and talk to someone that can over-ride/over-rule that Richard Cranium.

You also, from what if I read correctly, you took a load, when you really should have waited longer. As a company driver, I of course do not know the load set up that you as an o/o must go through, but to accept the load, and then not delver it is with some companies a "service failure" as well, and however any particular company handles such, is most likely in your contract.

So your options are to get on the phone with corporate, and explain in full detail or even type it all up nice and neat, and after talking with corporate, send that letter via certified mail, to what else, CYA that you made an attempt to get your job back.

If this fails, (you getting your job back), seek employment else where's and remember to CYA better next time.

When the weather doesn't allow me to run (like the road shutdown during the so called blizzard a few weeks ago) I had been communicating with my boss via phone but then after I call him (or night dispatch). I then send a qualcom "per our conversation at xx:00 I cannot complete this load do to safety concerns related to the weather (blizzard conditions) it is unsafe to travel. Will keep you updated and inform you when roads are safe for travel" gota cya
