I agree about buggy code. I have no issues downloading files over my 4G hotspot but somehow I'm being told that I have had corrupt downloads. If the integrity checking software can't spot a corrupt file, it's useless. I've downloaded and installed 3 times now with the same error. CS reinstalled the second time over remote support. Trying one more time with CS tomorrow and I was offered an alternative means to fix if that 4th time doesn't work. Called CS both yesterday and today and I'll be calling tomorrow.

If you need help I am available. PM me. Wi-Fi is not suggest.

When you download the files they are saved to your C:/ in a hidden folder. Then they are pushed to the TND. When you do a D/R you are comparing to the files on the C:/. So, if you corrupted a file during download you are comparing a corrupted file to a corrupted file.

Normally I Clean out the Cache folder to "force" a new download. It normally takes 1-3 hours for the maps on a high speed network. Wi-Fi is "shared" by everyone there and the speeds that are allowed are normally not high to prevent customers from sitting there and downloading gb's of data or movies/music.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I know many drivers that do not have high speed internet, but they do have friends that do. I just updated one about a week ago at their friends house. That download took about 45 minutes on high speed internet.

See the post above this for how the TND does an D/R.

If you need help PM me. I work many hours off the 8-5 schedule or weekends. All I ask is that you be on a high speed internet connection. Remoting via Wi-Fi is painful.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Just heard from my wife who is in Idaho right now coming back from California. Her 720 which is fully upgraded is still locking up a couple times a day. She has junction view turned off and tried in 2D and 3D view and still locking up.
When it locks up it goes into total trip view or goes into total trip view then locks up. Sometimes it will rectify itself when another button is pressed but she has to restart the unit most of the time. Master reset not helping.
    Any ideas ???

    Thanks
    John

First I have not heard of it going into total trip view. Try these - do an screen alignment then run a fingernail around the edge of the screen between the faceplate and the black plastic.

I am going to send you an PM. There is another tool I want you to do, but it is hidden.

    Thanks,
    Mark

So bad programming instead of buggy. My bad. It should be using a list of MD5 or another type of checksums (would be a small file) to check for corruption.

Edit 1: And I did clear out the RNDOCK folder in APPDATA.
Edit 2: I definitely have high speed. If it takes 1-3 hours, mine was only taking about 1.

It does use MD5. If you are high speed, I can remote into your computer with the unit connected and try to resolve the issue(s). I will be doing a cleanup of your registry and cleaning up the C:/ of the TND files, uninstalling the Dock, reinstalling it back, then trying the update again.

    Thanks,
    mark

But it's using MD5 from the files on the hard drive. It should download a list of MD5s from the server. That would resolve a lot of issues. The only thing that I haven't done that you would do is clear out the registry. I don't think that would resolve the issue but I'll try it. I disabled AVG, uninstalled the dock, formatted my SD card, and deleted the RNDOCK folder with the 4GB of files in it. Reinstalled dock, re-downloaded all the map files, re-installed all the map files, and did the same for the software update. A tech support did this for me through remote first. Then I tried again on my own with all those steps. I'm convinced there has to be something going on and the only way to solve it would be to ensure the MD5s match those of the server, not of those I downloaded....IF it is even from a corrupt download.

Normally when a download or Dock issue the best way for me is to start at square one. This way I am not fighting other issues such as a hung installer or possibly corrupt data files.

    Uninstall the Dock.
    Delete the RNDDock under Appdata/local
Clean out the registry of any RNDDOC
Delete the mounted drives in the registry, except for the C:/. The 720/Dock sometimes has a slight issue of it reading the drive (letter) assigned.
    Reboot the computer
    Connect the TND.
Install the Dock (with any anti-virus disabled)
Let the Dock do the back up.
    Redo the map download
    press the normal update button.

    I take this is a 720?

once this is all done, I will cut the "internal" maps off the TND and copy to the desktop.

There are two files in the Navi/Bin, one might have to be manually deleted and the other renamed.

    If any issues, PM me.

Just a note of caution to those reading this. Unless you are computer savvy do not jump into the registry. This is what controls your computer files/system.

If you wish to have me do this I am available. I use Teamviewer to remote.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I typed out a nice long reply to you but then I noticed above that it says I need 7 posts to PM non-staff. This will be number 6.

Thank you for your replies and help. If I come across as rude, I'm sorry. Just frustrated. Yes, it's the 720.Is it possible to get what you do for the file rename/delete? I would ask in the thread but I don't want people just randomly renaming and deleting their files.

I'll try one more time when I'm done tomorrow morning and then I was offered a one time repair by support for my troubles. I'd really prefer to not be without it for 2 weeks + the time to get home to grab it, if possible, though.

    Thanks, Josh
