Once, early '90's in Chicago. The Union Pacific was on strike, and the company I was leased to knew it, but didn't tell me. They were letting trucks drop off trailers, but didn't want loads going out. I was picking up a loaded trailer, so bobtailed in, found the wagon, pulled the seal off, put tape over the name on my door, and headed toward checkout. (checkout was a ways from the picketer's) One picketer said, "is that a load"? I said, no, an empty, he said, OK, and got out of there. It was very tense. I wouldn't ever cross a picket line again. Not so much that I believe in their cause, which I don't, but just don't want to take a chance.
anyone ever had to cross a picket line in your truck ?

I take it you don't like union people.
bigdogpile and bzinger Thank this. -
My dad's dad was a Teamster. Dad was a union bricklayer. Mom's dad was a union carpenter. It isn't "union people" I don't like. It is ANYBODY who thinks they have a right to the job somebody else is doing. If you wanted to work, the work is there. If you think too much of yourself to do that job for what the person who OWNS that job is willing to pay, don't take it out on the guy trying to feed his own family. You're sitting there picketing and protesting because your boss can't make a competitive bid because you and your cohorts are demanding too much to do a job. Not my problem.
Lonesome and texasbbqbest Thank this. -

I see what you're saying. Not all union members are like that,my brother for one.But there are union ppl that are exactly what you described. Some at the Tyson plant are like that. They think because a union is protecting them they can do anything they want and we the drivers are suppose to bow down to them and the hide plant is the same way.But just because you see picketers you shouldn't sterotype. To them they have good reason to strike.I think calling them thugs is a bit harsh.
