...or dispatch can just edit your logs and get you more time right?

Town Drunk and DrtyDiesel Thank this.

Yes, dispatch can go back and edit logs, however they must show the reason why the edit has to be done. An example is if a driver forgets to go off duty when they get home, then three days later they are still on duty, safety can edit the log. If a driver goes over on the drive line, safety can not edit that.

Not exactly, at least not with Swift. Only Safety can edit Drive time, and that basically takes an act of God. Only had to do that once, when I forgot to log as Active Driver before starting to drive in a team situation. Then Nanny Nancy started barking that my teammate was violating hours of service. Talk about a rude wake up call!

You can edit anything on your e-logs except Drive time, until you approve your logs.

I know that I am preaching to the choir, but the the 14 hour rule needs to go. Drivers were better off "safety wise" when they had wiggle room under the older HOS. At least they could shut it down for a few hours sleep when the load had time on it.

    Lepton and Town Drunk:

But we aren't talking about drive time. I think OP said he was over on 14 not 11. Methink they can edit his start time by 15 minutes to get him that extra 20 miles....or not?

They won't be able to if he started driving. Or say he did a 5 minute pre-trip then began driving. Then they could only give him those 5 minutes.

A driver can edit his own start time, at least with Swift, as long as he can show at least 15 minutes logged On Duty for pretrip inspection before starting to drive AND as long as he hasn't yet approved his logs. If you logged 15 minutes pretrip and start driving right after that, then you are pretty well locked in regarding that start time.

This is a double edged sword question. It seems that no matter what decision you make, it will be the "wrong" decision.

What is the reasoning behind this? Can I get specially trained to count waiting time at a dock as "off duty?"
