Oh my God, they never stop. Let me ask you a question. Why does it always have to antagonistic? I mean we are saying we don't want to be watched day in and day out and you're saying "no, no, the cameras are there for you". Well we are saying we don't want them, we hate them in fact yet you still insist on them. Why? Why does every trucking exec complain about driver shortage and do crap like this?

Listen to what you just said. We can address bad behavior and correct it. My God man do you not see how incredibly offensive that is? I would literally hate you if I was forced to put up with someone just watching me all day. Honestly, do you want a camera in your face at all times? Do you not realize that freedom is a huge draw to people looking, and staying, in trucking? How can you be so blind as to not get that?

Basically, pretending I'm a driver for your company. A guy like me, who has never been late, had an accident or even ticket and doesn't complain. Why can't you just let me be? Why antagonize me? I just don't get it. I'm telling you, if I was at your company my truck wouldn't even make it to the shop for you to put the camera in before I quit. That day I'm gone, it's a matter of principles. Honestly, I know it's the internet and I shouldn't take this personally since I don't know you but I absolutely hate and have no respect for people like you. People that hate, despise privacy. People that are intent on taking every bit of what little values are left in trucking, namely freedom, and just throwing them away. Why do you need to micromanage?

Every driver swerves man. You wanna know a trick every driver uses before reaching for a drink, or a bag of chips or whatever? We check our mirrors and do it when nobody is around us. We know we might swerve in doing it so we make it as safe as possible. It's not hard, I'm not going to stop doing it and you are not going to watch me.

But I don't know why I'm getting so worked up. I'll simply use the camera as a hat rack and you won't fire me. You know why? Because I don't hit things, deliver on time and don't complain and at the end of the day that's all you care about and you know it. So you will just look the other way while I do my job, the same one I've been doing without you "help" for years.

Sorry, but I haven't done long haul for many years now. I drive line haul and local work, 400-500 miles tops, so I am paid by the hour/load, not by mile.

And if I had a BA I could EASILY do what most dispatchers do that I work with now, and in the past. I dont know where in the hell they get these guys from, but trust me, most of them are sub-par by a long shot. Thats what happens when you dont pay them a decent salary I suppose.

Oh, yeah, and it MIGHT help if they drug -tested these ### clowns like they do we drivers, once in a while as well.

    They would fire you....

Because you would probably be at their highest pay rate. And they would like to pay someone else far less......

P.S. Most Trucking company exectutives do suck....

You get what you pay for, I always say.

If they want to hire some pendejo who thinks he can do what I do, may the Maker help them. I will just be working somewhere else that treats senior drivers like they should be treated. I am not about to kiss anyones arse to keep a job I am highly skilled at for many years.

No, the pay is the pay at my company. The only way to increase or decrease it is to change terminals. If they fire me the next guy would get the same pay. Basically there are no raises. They could always lower it I guess but you know what happens when they do that. The next company down the road will pay more. I'm a 9 year vet 4 year chemical tanker. Unless I crash or mess up my record somehow I do not worry about finding employment. Employment that pays. It just frustrates me that there are people like Meltom in my industry. All the ideas and new gizmos that he supports are just not needed.

Exactly, skilled. I know we take it for granted but next time you back in that tight spot with ease and no worries sit back and remember your first year and how hard that would have been. The next time the roads are on that line of being able to go or stop remember your first year. The next time you take that back road to get around the wreck or don't take that back road because you know it will be as bad, remember. The next time you find that customer for the first time when the directions make no sense but you have developed that 6th sense about where they probably are, remember. They think it takes no skill to do this. And skill isn't all, it takes fortitude, maturity and self motivation. How many people are willing to live on the road and this is the respect they want to give us? Ridiculous!

A guy like you probably wouldn't have much of an issue to begin with. Assuming you did have an event that I needed to speak with you about. 100% on time service, X number of years of accident free, etc, etc. My conversation, assuming I've spoken to you before, would probably go like "Ethos, what's up man? On whatever date your "insert system name" triggered an event that I had to review. It looks like you have done xyz. Do you recall that event?". Driver tells his side of the events, banter, banter, small talk. "I'm aware nobody is perfect and god knows I make my fair share of mistakes. Let's try not to do xyz again.". Typically followed by more small talk, thanks for the service, keep on doing a good job.

And this would only happen after whatever situation was reviewed and it was determined to be driver related. The point of the safety department should be to build guys up and to try to assist them in doing their jobs safely. They only way training would be involved would be if a driver demonstrated multiple events that could be attributed to driver negligence.
