I kind of figured it was something like that. I know there is a broker that calls me quite often wanting me to run loads of MRE's to Norfolk,Va and I always say no because Virginia does not have reciprocity with my state. Around 2005 I took a load to the military base near El Paso and I checked it in at the gate and it was no big deal and figured if I took a load to a base in a state with reciprocity it would be ok to do again. Guess I will stay away from bases then because I don't go on the road without my weapon.

Fortycalglock........Thank you for the clarification! I went through a real fiasco about 3 years ago back in Maine while trying to ship a hand gun to my address in Virginia Beach. The USPS, Fedex, and UPS all refused to ship it because I didn't have a FFL. Fedex almost worked, but they told me that I would have to be at my address to receive it. I ended up going to a FFL gunsmith in Maine and having it shipped to a local gun shop here in Va. Beach.
I did a bit more research this morning after seeing your post from last night, and downloaded the regulations for future reference.
My question is........should I just hand them the package and say nothing since I know it is legal shipment? Those people I dealt with 3 years ago seemed "freaked out" when I told them it was a hand gun.

(btw,, USPS cannot be used to ship handguns, only Fedex, UPS or a common/contract carrier can)
I used to ship them years back without telling them the contents, to reduce chance of theft, but as you see, laws have changed.
Make sure they don't label outside with any tag/sticker saying "Firearm", as that is prohibited for them to do.
If shipping FFL to FFL, ALWAYS include copies of the sending FFL and receiver's FFL, inside the package. (Does NOT apply if sending to yourself, as described previously)

It was a real PITA for a couple days until I found a local gunsmith with a FFL.
They need to simplify the regulations so that all common people, and shippers have a easier understanding.SheepDog Thanks this. -
Yes, you have to be the one to physically receive it. Destination arrival timing makes sending it to yourself sometimes real difficult.
Times have changed drastically. I used to board planes when I was a kid with a 'soft bagged' rifle & shotgun, hand it to the pilot, who would store it in the front closet compartment, and all was fine. Upon landing, I'd grab them from the 'closet' and march off the plane. It was common to see. No airport or plane shootings back then, either.

So did I read correctly that you got to the second gate and told them you had a firearm in the truck?
This is funny because I delivered some trucks to fort Campbell just last week and I told my delivery contact that I had a pistol on me and he told me it was ok. But I didn't buy it and called a friend who is an MP and luckily he told me "Eff no don't bring that thing on here" so I called guy back and gave him hell for trying to get me arrested lol. I had thought for a minute about removing an interior panel and hiding it good but why risk it just for someone else's convenience. Told him he could meet me just outside the gate to get his trucksSheepDog Thanks this. -
I would imagine state prison's all run differently in some way or another, whether they are High, Medium or Low risk prison's would make a difference as well.
