I have never served, and my wife is not a LEO, she's in LE. When I said storage unit, I meant something like Public Storage. Rent it for the month, close it out after one day. That type of deal. As KW Cajun says, the wringer is a lot worse than you might think. How many ACTUAL truck drivers think carrying a gun in a truck is crime? 75% maybe, it's way over 50%. How many LEO's might think that? I also consider it a waste of resources for an officer to babysit your gun.
I need a re-power asap!

The most important freedom we have is Freedom of Choice. What some people (none in this discussion, obviously) forget that with Freedom of Choice comes accepting the consequences of that choice. I choose to be an advocate of gun rights in the proper forum. I also choose to work for a company that has a zero firearms policy on company owned property, and operate in a field that generally has a zero weapons policy in place at many of the places I go to. Therefore, I choose to exercise my right to carry only on personal time and accept the possible consequences of not exercising that right during my work time. -
I don't see how the wringer could be worse than what I think but here is what happened on the base. I got escorted back from gate one to the Badge/ID building. Was than told to shut truck off and roll up window..lol After about 15/20 minutes they asked me to get out and told me to put my hands on the truck, so I did. The Navel officer than searched me, cuffed me and put me in a Local PD squad care, back seat of course. At the time I was being physically searched, the Local LEO asked me if I had a CCW, I than gave her that. After I was put in the car they turned on the AC and opened the window that separates the front from the back seat. The Navel Police officer that put the handcuff's on took his job seriously and I believe he had a problem with me more than anyone else, because he put the cuffs on tight as could be but, I did not complain. After I sat in the car for a while,,,say 30 minutes, they asked me some questions that seemed redundant but, I have been in the Military so, I know how things work,,,each entity had to have their paperwork and so I was asked the same question by different entities many times.. I was probably in cuffs for two hours before they finally let me go. If anyone says that is the wringer well, ok but I felt as if I they were doing their job as they should and I was not being harassed, and I didn't feel they were doing anything I didn't deserve. They searched my truck and let me go,,pretty much in that order.
I see your point on the wasted resource for a LEO to babysit my firearm, but since the local LE have authority over what is in front of the gate to the base, I am sure they could give one direction. That is all I would ask them for really but again, many options have now been brought to the service and maybe I wouldn't call the local pd. And you are absolutely correct on how many think that it is a crime to carry a firearm in the truck.. I have heard about some federal law that says you can't and I actually used to think it was true, until I did my own research. You know, LEO's are people to and maybe 1 in a 100 may not know it is legal to carry in a truck but, I have yet to run into any LEO that didn't know, of course, I don't deal with LE much at all. If I get pulled over by DOT, I don't give information that isn't asked. -

I'm not far and would love to help you.... how ever I can not get on that base. Even with an escort. I wont get past the gate house as soon as they run a back ground on me. The base commander there is a douche. Base commander gives final say on who can and can not get on base,.. felony or not. I get get into Ft Bragg and all of the SC bases. Lockhead Martin,.. I may as well be a terrorist.
HurstSheepDog Thanks this. -
I am sorry to hear that friend.... I am going to call the Navel Base in a couple months, when summer is going good and everyone is happy...lol I don't like be banned from anywhere, especially a Military Compound. -
On a much lighter note.. I got to haul my first Military equipment today and I was/am happy about it. I picked up from UTES at Fort Jackson and delivered to Fort Stewart. Locked my firearm up in the safe before I picked up and you know what....I was never even asked if I had ANYTHING in my truck! Granted, Fort Jackson and Fort Stewart are pretty much nothing but training bases,,,no nuke's there..lol But, I was nervous a bit going to both.

I know what LE stands for...you got to read higher to find out why I asked that question.
