    It seems to me PP had many opportunities to make it right before the melt down. Rumor has it they, after several returns to PP, washed there hands of it. Now that it's going viral, Bruce is winning about them going to another shop. Wtf? After hearing Bruce on Sundays show, I tend to believe the rumor.

    What they said on the Sunday show, was since they were out on the west coast they started using other shops. IIRC, the owners didn't stay in touch with PP. I'm not defending PP in any way, but simply pointing out the owners of the signature truck seem to have brought a lot of this down on themselves.

    I agree and that is why someone with little to virtually no mechanical aptitude should never buy some one of a kind hopped up motor from any shop let alone the only shop that will warranty it being clear across the country. Regardless if it was built right in the first place they gave PP a cop out when they made that choice and let other shops play with ECMs and turbos. I don't know why anyone would not be pleased with a truck getting 8mpg pulling random company trailers anyways but of course they were sold a dream 10 mpg + etc, etc.

    For 200 grand you wouldn't think you'd have to spend any time in a shop let alone numerous times for the same thing. It's not like this was just a minor problem, it was the power plant. If the OP's were to blame, it would be for being naïve and hanging on to every word KR and PP told them.

    Let's disregard, for the time being, all the issues with elevated temps, running poorly, low (lower than expected) mileage, and all the other issues.
    Let's start with the actual core build. No matter who's shop it was brought to, once they measured the liner protrusions and found they were all the way down to 0.001" BELOW the deck surface, that clearly shows that PP was overwhelmingly negligent in BASIC engine machining and parts fitting (assembly) procedures.

    That in itself, shows that the basic short block was built and assembled without due precision/care and was destined to fail when fully assembled.
    That's just looking at the basic short block, not even including the head or all the other systems/parts.
    Therefore, imo, how can any other engine work be trusted if you can't assemble/machine the basic core?

    And you say "there is little that Bruce can do to rectify the situation" just because it went to another shop? (one that found these outrageous flaws in PP's work)

    The 12.7 Detroit has been around a long time, is a well-known fuel miser in OEM trim and when built properly will last a lifetime with minimal maintenance. Snake oil salesman is about the right description for those that would suggest an unproven path with a 5-year payback... under the best circumstance, but "never" being the most likely case.

    I seen Fitzgerald is selling 2015 KW T660 gliders with a 550/1650 Detroit 12.7 for $132,500-$136,500, depending on transmission. That's $67,500-$63,500 less than the KR/PP albatross. That's real money. How much better fuel mileage were KR/PP claiming the wonder-truck would get, at best, on a consistent basis... two mpg? Three?


    Some people shouldn't be in business for themselves.

    Some people should be in jail for the advice they give.

    The motor started out as brand new remanufacture from Detroit..my question is were the liners removed by PP to have them Micro Blued ?

    Also if They knew they were going to build a Micro Blued engine why didn;t they build a motor from the ground up at PP and Micro Blue the parts than assemble them instead of buying a OEM re manufacture and disassembling it to Micro Blue and than reassemble.

    If PP power never touched the liners and I am sure they Speced them from Detroit correctly and were Double Speced by PP the only answer would be HEAT sunk them.

    Heat would most likely be the culprit of the Intake valves not seating properly anymore and creating cylinder leakdown.

    What did that additional Frame Rail and Lift axle cost ?

    What other upgrades are on this truck to add 60 thousand to it ?

    Creating a one of a kind wiring harness to insert a Detroit into a KW is certainly a part of it.
