Hi guys
Iam a small O/O And one of my driver while on a delivery broke the overhead hydro wire which damaged PVC pipe of an home owner.
He stopped and secure the scene , hydro guys came and fix the wire, police said they have nothing to do much if the hydro guy is there, now the home owners asking money from me .. Hydro also took the information and called me yesterday about some info. My INSURENCE is also being informed . That was a residential street but with no sign of no truck rout. We go there every Monday for the delivery as the delivery entrance is on the adjoining side street .
There is no others after way or we have to back up all the way from a downtown busy intersection .
So what should I do ?? Isn't it hydro one at fault as the guy admitted that the wire was low because of the snow/ice .
Or leave it at INSURENCE . I don't have the permit of that street.
Plz advice ....
Break an hydro wire while on a side street .

How much is the home/owner asking for$$, if less than ded. and he signs off on damages it may be best to let insur. handle it because you allready called them?
-
Maybe talk to city hall or the city streets dept/engineer?
There has to be height standards or codes regarding overhead wires across city streets for this very reason. -
Baha
He is asking for 1200$ and his neighbour askin for 600$
And don't know how much hydro one will charge me.
I don't understand one thing

if you were on a public street overhead lines must be a certain height above the street,,if there were no restrictions on the street for trucks I would not pay,,
I hit an power line from a pole to a building once,,tore it down , the occupant of the building came out and right from the start started complaining how much it would cost his business because of lost power,, The load I was hauling was 15ft high, The local power company as well as cops came out and when they measured my load and confirmed I was 15ft high the power company and the cops let me go telling me Calif law required all electrical lines must have 17ft vertical clearance minimum and it was not my fault,,atwal Thanks this. -
Therefore no liability to the truck. -
Not your fault the wire was lower than required.
Tell them the top of your trailer was damaged and you want compensation.Prom Night Dumpster Baby, atwal and EZX1100 Thank this. -

I ripped a cable line down once and unfortunately it was tied to the hydro post as well and took about a 6 foot hunk out of the guy's siding, cable company came out and secured everything and said because of age and weather etc the line had sagged and they were totally responsible. Any above ground wires across a public roadway have to have a minimum height clearance, usually 13'8 to 14 feet depending on the zoning bylaws. That includes Hydro, Cable and Telephone. I'm in and out of residential areas all the time and have tore down many a phone line over the years, so talkin' from experience.atwal Thanks this.
