Forget about the damper breaking, you could crack your crank, the very thing the damper protects. I would not run the truck until it's replaced by a Cat authorized shop, this is not an area you want to scrimp on.

The one you posted is not like the one on my 3406E 6TS. I had mine replaced at Midway Western Star, Bethel, PA. I can take a pic of the old one if you like, I still have it. During the CAT OPT out frame overhaul they deemed it good but, I had them replace it for piece of mind.

dont get one from cat. they are junk. either pits power or pdi or if you can get ahold of him MR. HANEY. it is called a vibratech. better quality than the oem cat one.

I guess my reply was turned down, but what about a balancer other than the stock one.

Yikes! You still have the original one! Get a new one before you break your crank. CAT new design is good. Don't know what would make vibratech better unless by virtue of being non-OEM it's automatically better!

Vibratech is the manufacturer for pdi and pp, they seem to work well IMHO.

Would be nice if someone would cut apart a Vibratech and a CAT to compare the innards.

I found a brand new elastomer style damper just like the one I have on my truck now for 200 dollars brand new. 2p5149
What's interesting is that race engine builders will not use the fluid dampers on race motors because they claim they break cranks.
I would rather have the old elastomer one anyway. Why change something that works! The one on the right is what I have now.

because the china made ones that cat sells have prematurely failed. vibratech's if memory serves me right is the same design as the pre china junk. that's why.

I'm not using a fluid damper though. Don't want one. I Never cared for fluid damper and they don't last anyway from what I've seen anyway. Many top professional engine builders will not use them. Many top crankshaft manufactures send a paper in the the box the crank comes specifically saying do not run a fluid damper. That's all I need to know.
I would much rather have the elastomer type damper. I know they work.
