Yeah, I get long winded too often... Struggle for the right words...
Happens more when I'm tired... Opposite of what you'd expect, then again... I'm weird. ;)

Not to get off topic but does anyone actually have first hand knowledge of a company being shut down due to CSA scores? I'm pretty sure my company was audited twice now. First time was for HOS violations, we got e logs after that. Now I just checked and we're at 97% for unsafe driving, apparently the DOT doesn't approve of our speeds or lack of seatbelt usage. Now we're in the process of getting our trucks turned down to 64 and they changed how our pay is structured so our personal CSA score affects our pay. Either way with an abysmal score they're still open and doing business. So what exactly does it take to get shut down?

on topic beyond transport I don't have much to add to the pot at this point but I commend you for sticking it out through the fire here and genuinely attempting to change for the better.

What company do you work for?

It's hard to ACTUALLY get shut down now days. DOT will come audit you and fine the #### out of the company but they will still run at the end of the day.

I've seen so many companies with 4 alerts but still have a satisfactory rating. It's all about how you approach things in a audit. Listen, to be quite honest - not all carriers who have high alerts means they're a bad company. Companies can only do SO much if they're not on e-logs. Unless they get e-logs or a dashcam, how can they be 100% certain a driver ACTUALLY even does a log? I've heard so called "OUTLAWS" even say that they do not a logbook until they get to the customer. Why? Those are the guys that destroy a companies CSA record.

Company I work for has 2 alerts. One in "unsafe driving" and one in "vehicle maintenance".
Safety the other day was super pissed and sent a mass message because a driver got stopped by the DOT and was given two violations (improper lane usage & speeding 6-10 over) in a inspection and added 27 points to the companies CSA record and will be on there for the next 3 years.. Needless to say, he was very frusrated when I came to see him and threw some F BOMBS about the situation lol. I cant blame the guy. His job is on the line if he isnt showing results. Sometimes you cant just fault the companies but fault these drivers. I believe the driver got his truck turned down to 64 and was hit with a hefty penalty. Think the driver probably quit afterwards, I dont know.

I appreciate your response - and here is how I'd like to respond. I started this position since the end of September of last year - check out the details of violations since then...its all slowly improving. I'm trying, but no I'm not the owner and I walked into these policies, I didn't create them. I'm trying to see what I can do to change things around, getting feedback. If you are in sales, you should know your customer, your market, and your competition - this is what I'm trying to do on this board. I'm not the maintenance department - I'm not the dispatcher - I don't work in accounting I'm in recruiting and safety and fulfilling the HR function here. I have to do the best with what I have. I like the candidness of people.

Is'nt that ridiculous how companies can stay open with high scores.A company I drove for was at 100%.I had to hear that from an officer in TN.He pulled me over just for that and then checked my logs. What companies do if the heat is on them they change their name and dot number.A company I drove for did just that.He was at 100% the almost 3 yrs I was at 100% the almost 3 yrs I drove for him.Hes really sad that the real victims are the drivers not the carriers.

Although I will not post my name, you can call the company and find me if you ask for the safety department. Here is what my 10 years of experience stems from - I'm 36, when I was in HS my dad started a side business by buying three dump trucks and hauling all over the Chicagoland area (full disclosure here: we are Polish and although I was born here my parents were immigrants) .... I helped with everything, paperwork, accounting, etc. slowly we transitioned into sleeper tractors and dry vans .... just a few trucks, we leased them to bigger companies but hired our own drivers. Again I was involved in everything that involved paperwork, but didn't have an in depth safety roll. For a while I did something completley different full time and then almost ten years ago my dad retired from his job and became a full time otr driver for himself, I went to school and got a Bachelor's in Accounting. In the meantime I did everything from dispatch, to accounting, to safety and even had a couple of DOT inspections (that the DOT does when you get an MC number...), he had a lot of friends in the industry and I helped them too. Whatever anyone needed from billing to insurance I helped out. These are all owner ops that have their own authorities, look for their own loads and really haul, most have one or two truck companies and thats it. They don't need any more and don't want anymore. I graduated at the top of my class and was offered a scholarship in an MBA program - which I completed. During the program I fell in love with HR and did a specialization in it, but as life goes I got married and had two kids, who are still pretty young (one is not even in kindergarten yet). My dad is now on the verge of retiring, I had all of these diplomas but can't find the conventional corporate job because my husband is also an otr driver (with his own authority/truck) and so I started to look for something I know with a lot of flexibility so I can pick up and drop off from school and still get out of the house and try to move forward, formulate some kind of career. I'm not young, I've been involved in trucking for more than 10 years but felt that this was a safe number to put. I probably could open a shop like the one I work for now, but honestly I don't want the headache - Chicago is truly a cut throat place when it comes to securing freight on the company level and there are bigger fish with deeper pockets. I think that once you are trained in business, such as I am, its hard to just fly by the seat of your pants like some people I know. Plus I don't want the stress and headache and 24/7 of having so many trucks, drivers, dispatchers etc. At the end of the day I want to go home to my kids and family and not worry about the other stuff.

How is that for full disclosure?.....

Honestly after working here I really don't believe in judging based on a CSA score anymore. By all rights looking at our CSA this would be a terrible place to work but they have always done right by me and honestly do what they say they will do. It's by no means perfect but they do a good job with the things that are most important to me. Jjkid company is ecklund logistics dot# 1098480 if you want to look at the CSA.

i have driven for about ten years now, i actually liked working for jb hunt, lol, at least for a while. i've worked in illinois, we got a whole web site of what's wrong with trucking, much of it, i've experienced; not a lot of solutions, beyond the rationalizing compliance, complacency, etc......if we look closely, not many companies pay nor treat drivers at their true worth....perhaps, ya think, gone are the days of benevolent employers, gov, etc...so expecting voluntary fair treatment from most these companies, etc.... is flirting with insanity.....lol, the only difference between eastern Europeans & corporate behavior is the technique of exploiting labor. as long as we remain whinners, the" band plays on "
Consequently, personally, i'm considering buying truck, i think i might be ok with, being in control of how i'm treated .%$@# how hard or how much it may cost......lol, i went to an interview recently, this person pointed out, 16 jobs in 10 years, told him straight out, if the company ain't right i will leave, etc......i don't mind the trail of employers. simply because i was an ironworker when younger, for some years, i learned the value of safety, there's no second chances with heavy equipment, all safety measures are worth the short time it takes....employee satisfaction {pay, treatment, etc} is intrinsic with safety....if an employer doesn't reciprocate my value, then i veritably don't value the employer....
Man i can whine with ya till tha end of time.......no problem.........the only good employer, imho, is "self"

I'm not part of the maintenance department - I don't know the answer. I'm definitely not avoiding any questions here so sorry you feel that way.
