I thought that I read somewhere in the thread that the bores were machined to take larger liners. If that is true, then the machining comes into question.

Yeah just because you can drive one down to peak torque 1,200 rpms doesn't mean you should always do it. Circumstance might dictate otherwise. But to a rookie fuel mileage nazi who's always been preached to "keep it at 1,200 rpms" and doesn't know better surely going to push temperatures to the envelope quite often. That doesn't excuse shoddy workmanship but you got power you better drive it right.

I own a Fitzgerald's Columbia glider 2013 13 speed 3.55 rears 65 to 68 mph tanker 80k plus one way then empty back 7.4 mpg life time. No idle have APU but run 2 hours a day at 1000 rpm's to pump off load.

Oh forgot to tell you guy's I drove 58 mph in 12th gear at 1370 rpm for over two weeks and got 8.2 mpg
