Anybody ever just abandon your co. truck?

I dont anymore. That was my goal at the time. Good or bad,.. now I am in a much better situation all the way around. I still have a long way to go. But so far so good.

 

I abandon my truck every time I come home but they talk me into getting back into it.

 

I was born with enough sense to recognize crappy employment before I signed on. Never crossed my mind to abandon anyone's truck.

I did abuse the heck out of some junkers I didn't like driving, hoping they'd break. I succeeded twice! Then I was happy driving the better trucks in the fleet.

Seems like downshifting into an inappropriately low gear at too high a road speed works like a charm to blow an engine if done enough times.

 

I didn't mention that the junker was a 6 wheeler reg'd for 26K and 36K loads were the norm for it. Manager was unable to change sitch so I am a man of action! Corporate got a more appropriate truck for the loads once I set the pendulum for change in motion!

Was makin' good money there didn't want to quit. Just needed a little tweaking.

 

All of this mess is why I always carry my Visa card!

If i got into some of the situations that have been posted the truck would be parked and I'm on the way to a rental car!
Luckily I have not had to do that or worked for such scumbag outfits.

 

Other truck was my first job at 21 yrs old driving old Ryder 6 wheeler big block GM gas job. I'd turn the key off then back on to make it backfire just for kicks. Blew the muffler apart. Lo and behold when the shop looked at it they said it blew the engine.

Come to think of it that might have been the same 6 wheeler I had up on 3 wheels once! I was a wild man in the 80s.

 

I have been asked to run 2 log books and take an illegal load across the border. Refused to do both, thought I was fired both times, but never heard another word about it, and ended up receiving nothing but respect.

I was even told when I left later by the owner, that I would always have a position waiting for me if I ever wanted to come back. When we throw our integrity out the window, expect to be treated accordingly.

I do not understand abusing equipment. I guess my World War II B17/24 mechanic Dad taught me better....

I had a friend who worked for a company and gave a 2 week notice. The company he worked for said they would try to work him to the closest terminal to his house within those 2 weeks. 4 weeks later they still hadn't gotten him home and he was due to start a new job the next week. So he delivered his load, about 500 miles from home, fueled the truck and headed home. He did drop the truck off at the closest terminal to his house, about 30 miles away and the company charged him for the fuel out of his last pay for "Unauthorized miles" and showed on his DAC report that he abandoned his truck. This was one of the larger reefer carriers.
