I am officially starting PTEC May 18th. I got laid off from my I.T. job and am utilizing the WIA program to pay for it. I originally was going to go to Roadmaster because it offered part time, but PTEC was always where I wanted to go, but couldn't because I had to work. In a way, me being laid off is a blessing in disguise. I went down Saturday to the DMV here in New Port Richey and took my permit test, double/triples and tanker endorsement tests...Passed them all! I was going to take my hazmat as well but I felt I hadn't studied up enough on that one yet. I did not have the DMV issue my permit yet because it is only good for 6 months, so I will just wait until May and the start of class. I am beyond happy that I am able to get my training at PTEC versus Roadmaster or a different CDL mill. Anyone else out there that went to PTEC and have any advice for me?

Pinellas Technical College in St Pete. They have a 320 hour CDL program. Way cheaper than roadmaster and much better training.

As early as 2 or 3 days before school starts, submit job applications. Submit as many as you want.
Get all the endorsements plus TWIC and passport for more job opportunities.
Ignore "experience required" on trucking company websites because many companies bend their own hiring rules for high quality applicants.

Thanks China. I went and applied for my TWIC already. They said it should take about 30 days, so I will have it even before I start school. All of my endorsements are done except for Hazmat..... My school told me to hold off on the Hazmat at this time because by the time I am done with school (End of July) it would lapse and I would just have to take the test again anyway. I am studied up and ready to take it though. I am just very excited right now because this has all been a plan in the works for over two years, and now it's so close to becoming reality I can taste it. I am especially happy that I don't have to go through a mill like Roadmaster. PTEC guarantees 1000 hours behind the wheel...not just in the truck riding with other students. Class sizes are small (8 people) ,so you get very personalized and lots of one on one training. I feel going through a 320 hour program will enable your confidence to shoot through the roof versus a crammed 3 week program. Just looking forward to this new chapter in my life......It is a huge change, but something I am looking forward to in a huge way.

If you're planning for tankers, those companies are strict, so be prepared. Blood pressure, sugar levels, hair follicle, stair step excercise for heart rate test.

Don't let the school or the students push you for any company; you choose for yourself.

Not necessarily looking for just Tankers but it will definitely be in the cards. My blood pressure is good, sugar levels good, I dont do any type of drugs, and I am in ok shape. I am over weight but Im not fat by any means. My plans for running Tankers would be down the road after I get some experience in and start looking for local gigs delivering fuel or something like that.. I want to go OTR at first. The only thing I would be nervous about is them testing me for sleep apnea just because I am a little over weight. I hear its kind of a scam with some companies. I am 5'8" and weight about 225 but I have a good muscular build to me.

Abilene Motor Express runs West Coast turns; good OTR company.
    Wil-Trans
    Midwest-coast Transport

Not sure you're in the hiring area for the following;you can check:

    Freymiller
    Navajo Express

I listed companies that run coast to coast.

I am actually in Holiday FL just northwest of Tampa. Wolding is my #1 choice... Of course who really gets their number 1 choice right out of school anyway so I am also looking at Avritt, Schneider, Prime, etc. Also will be applying at local companies just incase I get lucky 🍀
