Just look at the interest generated - 25 pages in just a few days.
This indicates something that should be obvious: more dialogue between company and driver is needed.
Beyond says, "drivers don't know how it is for the company" [para]. That is true and we drivers need to consider our own ignorance of the challehges of running the business if we expect the same consideration from "office people" who have no experience of our world.
IMHO a smart company will do "ride alongs" with drivers to get an appreciation for the hardships of our lifestyle and thereby have a better understanding of why we gripe. A smart company will also make an effort to inform and educate their drivers of the nature of logistics from the corporate perspective. The better we understand each other, the more we have context to respect each other. Too often, due to lack of mutual understanding, what should be a partnership degenerates into an adversarial relationship that diminishes everyone's job satisfaction.
Thank you Beyond for making an effort to bridge this gap by seeking feedback and attempting to articulate your own experience. That is a good effort which can only help your business.Interplanet Janet, EZ Money, Gearjammin' Penguin and 2 others Thank this. -
One of, if not the best reply yet.

When I got hired as a dispatcher part of my training was a week on the road. It was a very useful tool to make you appreciate what the life of a driver was like. I would have liked a driver that made me more responsible for communication with dispatch so I could have experienced the frustration of not getting answers. I did learn that forgetting my toiletries in Richmond, VA made the rest of the week kind of bad and certainly more expensive.

For the record I called it out 4 days ago....look in the drivers wanted section...there she is recruiting! -
Ok, guys, you forgot about my MBA and specialization in HR (which includes OSHA and safety) .... but you know who am I to count my years of education, lol.
..As for the ad in the jobs section, really? Did you expect me not to put one up? Wouldn't that make me come across at not doing my job thoroughly? Anyone who is recruiting for any position will tell you that they will try everywhere possible to find the right candidate. I don't think it makes me a bad person for trying to find candidates on a specific board that is dedicated to that. I did not try to recruit or speak to a single person throughout this whole thread, nor did I mention that I put an ad up on this thread.
I think that your trying to call me out on something I simply didn't do and its a bit unwarranted.
I also wanted to say I agree with a previous poster, there definitely needs to be more dialogue between drivers and the office, I love the idea of making the office staff go out on the road for a week and live through what its like to be in the truck. This way there is more respect. I'd love for the drivers to sit in my seat also and see how the safety department works, etc.
I also can't believe that this thread has garnered so many responses and I want to thank everyone that participated and gave feed back - much appreciated. Hope I can return the favor one day.
dogtrucker, AfterShock and KW Cajun Thank this. -
No, your previous OSHA & Safety experience does not count as you guys have a horrible maintenance & safety record.
But let's put all that aside for a second. How much money are you paying your drivers? Realistically what are drivers putting in their pockets every week?loose_leafs Thanks this. -
If you read my previous post than you would know that I have not been here since the inception of this company, but I am doing my best to improve all of these things. This company is not owned by me, or by my relatives, or by my acquaintances, or by anyone that is even in my nationality - I just work here. Typically when I hire a new driver I am able to start them off somewhere between the .40 and .42 cents per mile and this is for all miles paid including dead head. Our drivers are paid $35 extra for any additional drops or pick ups that they make, and there are also detention and layover pay if the situation merits it.
Do you think that this is an unfair wage?

was mentioned five days ago by others, ---
see post #20 (page 6) and post #93 (page 10).
Sorry, no cigar this time.
You really need to read all the posts in a thread.
Post #247 is a good one not to miss reading, or
not to misread either.BeyondTransport Thanks this.
