Quick question regarding past employment history. I used to have a desk job pushing papers and making data entries. So my employment history has nothing to do with driving trucks. When employers want the 10 year employment history, what are they looking for because this will be my first driving job. Thanks

Just what you were doing for the past 10 years. No biggie.

I have been a driver now for 26 years. But long before that, I was a male exotic dancer, but the club I worked at had shut down, and all I had for proof was this video clip. The HR Dept hired me on the spot.

Some companies require 10 years even though there is no legal basis for that requirement if you haven't performed any DOT safety sensitive functions for previous employers. If you've never held a CDL, then 3 years of employment history is all that is legally required. You'll find that company policy frequently differs from legal requirements.

To the o/p, I did at least tell you the 10 years of history, but I got carried away, cuz I am not working tonight, and I have had some wine, then some more wine, and a little bit more wine. My g/f likes me liquored up on Saturday nights.

    389Trucker,

In your case, the 10 years will only show how stable a work history you have.
It tells them whether you tend to be a job hopper (such as ~20 jobs in past 10 yrs) or a stable employee (~3 jobs in past 10 yrs).
I also doubt they'll even be concerned with anything prior to 3 years in your work history, unless it was something very peculiar.
