I think all of that leads back to the shoddy build, with PP blaming everything under the sun for the lackluster performance as well as other problems. I agree with you though, had they just kept it factory Detroit with a BW turbo and a fuel economy tune, they wouldn't have had these problems.

Not singling you out, but this is the sort of attack I really get tired of seeing, and the sort of thing that runs off people that are generally making a positive contribution to this corner of the interwebs.

I'm probably not on IP's list of favorite people, but it is pretty clear that he is among the more diligent people at collecting and tracking business data. I take that at face value and feel it's credible. I may not agree with his conclusions, but he is on a short list of people I've encountered online that I would not suggest as being dishonest about numbers he reports or refers to.

Me? I'm not that guy. I don't track my costs that closely. I don't have the time or patience for it. I do observe trends and respond. I cannot give you hand calculated fuel economy numbers because I don't do that. I watch my scangauge for instant feedback. Then prepare an IFTA return quarterly, and filter on each truck to see quarter to quarter changes. That said, I don't think my way is the only way to bring more profit to my business. If other people want to get granular with their data, whip it on. I like observing other people doing hard work.

Regarding the FASS, I agree with hammer. I think there's a benefit based on the science, but not that much benefit. IMO lift pump filter setups like this may also be replacing/enhancing at least less efficient factory systems, or in worse cases, replacing faulty original equipment. Bad hoses, clogged fittings, and the like. Stuff you don't actually diagnose, but get "fixed" in the process of installing the aftermarket item. Unfortunately, because of that you never really know how much that new doodad actually brings you. Maybe less of an issue with IP, as I believe he's running newer equipment in the first place so the old parts theory doesn't have as much merit.

An interesting example of my own. I mentioned in an earlier post I have considered doing Microblue bearings. Mainly on my trailers. I also suspected oil bath setup was the reason I dropped 0.3 mpg when I traded trailers, to a newer one that had grease packed bearings. So I've waffled about it a while but not made any decisions. So I start hauling my other trailer following replacement of the reefer unit, also with grease pack bearings. I had one wheel end that had an oil bath cap and thought I had a problem that my son had overlooked and got worried enough about contaminated or lack of lube to make an unscheduled stop (at a great trailer shop I discovered a while back) to get it dealt with.

Right there I had a couple of options. Since we do swap trailers and I like the lower maintenance of grease, I decided to not go with oil bath. They said the bearings were worn but serviceable. I saw what the crap in the cap looked like and just told them to put in new bearings and races. Since then, I've observed an incremental increase in mpg. Maybe it was the new bearings. Or maybe the preload was set too tight on the old ones. Or maybe it was a lack of lube with the old ones. It makes my head hurt trying to second guess that or get to a precise mpg improvement. What I do know is: it's pulling easier. I'm ok with that. Maybe Microblue in oil bath might get me another tenth or two mpg. Maybe not. In either case it's another day in the shop downtime, hundreds more in parts, and I leave with a slightly less maintenance free setup. Not worth it in my operation, but I won't make a fuss about others that more carefully track their costs and always pull the same trailer seeing a change like that as something worthwhile to spend time and money on.

Please tell us all how to drive a $200k truck with a Detroit so we can all learn.

Remember now the snake oil salesman was confident the new owners were ready to step up to a truck like this.

SOO these magical 2400 Dollar PP ECU's what can they do?

According to Bruce at the push of a button you have a a progressive 25 horse at your hands at 5 different increments.

So what can this ECU do? It can change the timing of the fuel deliverance and duration.

Other than that what can it do ? Change the Waste Gate pressure?

My guess is it's a sound quality issue. Some voices sound tremendously different with differing microphones. I don't listen to KR so I couldn't tell you if it's Bruce on there. But the guy in the vid is Bruce.

Red I wonder the same thing about grease packed bearings my trailer has the same thing. But I notice a lot of big fleets run grease pack - SNI, etc. Maybe it is because ease of maintenence thing. But these are fleets that run 63mpg, have trailer skirts, wheel covers, etc - maybe there is not such a big trade off as people would think. Synthetic grease is good stuff. I'm looking for summer blend fuel to get here ASAP so I can get some numbers that are not ruined by idling in 20 degree Temps overnight and the like. And some weeks where I am not in such a #### hurry burning up the hwy and can see just what it will do - if comparable to my oil bath older trailer. My guess is it will likely be the same mpg's as always.

    Exactly .

That motor was lugged to death.

By the Engine builders advice, Which was wrong, but they don't have the guts to say it.

15 posts back I posted where a famous marine diesel builder helped me kill a motor with their recommendations of running the motor at 3600 where in the end it needed 4200 to breathe.

if you HOP them up they need to breathe to get rid of the heat created by all the Boost. . So let the unWind and Breathe
