YA I agree you as a business person that pays for all expenses should be able to make his or her decision on what loads to take and other stuff to make this bussiness successful, not a person behind a desk making those decisions for ya . I'm just about to commit to this company ,I have been doing my homework and have down 2 successful leases and ready to jump in again. Im not sure, new or used for me , just don't want a ballon payment at end, but on other hand the new truck warranty would be a nice piece of mind.

I'm with you tcarson, the warranty is worth quite a bit. As a L/P it's your pocket for unwarranted repairs. Basic maintenance is one thing, and your maintenance account will help if not totally covering cost. But major repairs can bankrupt a business.

I hear lots of bad about eagle, I had a friend that worked there and turned in his truck not even a month later, said he didn't make any money and lots of cheap freight, but I've heard some guys doing well, I think it all depends on the driver.

Thats what I'm thinking too. It all depends on the driver. I'm scheduled for orientation this Monday and I'm going flats. Van freight is decent. But when the broker gets their 10%, then the dispatcher gets their 2-10%, the company shows you what's left (we hope lol) and you take your 75% from that. That's a lot of hands on that rate that was only decent to start with.

General freight flatbed rates aren't much better, but they are better. But none of that is the point. You can broker your own loads there. THAT is the first thing I plan to start doing once I learn their system. Although I am a little nervous on that front because I don't see anyone talking about that aspect of Eagle. Hopefully they don't over complicate the process.

Starting orientation for eagle tomorrow. At the moment I'm sitting in a Pizza Hut across the street from the Super 8 Motel about to do some seriously unnecessary damage to my arteries.

Good Luck there Loke! After all of the research, you feel confident in your decision to go with Eagle?? I'm on the fence still, need more info before I pull the trigger. Remember, it's all about the truck you pick. Go over the truck very very carefully and trust your gut. Keep us posted.

Thanks. I'll keep everyone posted on my experiences. This seems like a good fit, in theory. My confidence lies in how the program seems to be from the outside looking in. As long as it is what it seems to be I should do ok. Going to plant both feet on the ground and give it a shot.

I will be starting with Eagle on 04/13, planning on going the reefer route, America needs to eat, and there seems to always be a reefer load around and it is what I have done for the most part since '84. I hear that all the new trucks have APU's on them which that's nice, save fuel to help offset the high weekly truck payment. Used is ok, but I have found that on a truck with 400k, you need to build up your escrow fast, because repairs are coming, and they are costly, so for that reason you may make less than a company driver for a bit until you build up your account, and can put more in your personal account.
Love the idea of the broker boards, but if they are like landstar, no load is yours until the load is confirmed, and once it is confirmed, and it is yours, I wonder if we can find out what loads will be available on the other end, what they pay ect? That way you can plan out your whole week and hometime as well.

Well, they don't approval any loads from brokers they don't deal with and if Celadon is already doing business with them and one reason I left cause it wasn't what they original said. It is your choice, but read the contract very careful and make sure you understand everything that will be taken out your check.

http://www.eaglelogisticsservices.com/ not truth at all cause you don't have the freedom to picked your own loads and you can't turn loads down. If you turn loads down then you will be sitting for a while, the dispatcher told me this out of his own mouth. So it is what it is and you can believe this and listen to more than likely people that works in the front office, but it is a mistake from day one. Don't do it. Saved some money up and put some money down on a good truck and do it the hard way cause what they selling is a dream and you will end up broke in the end.

I think they have a list of less than 20 brokers you can deal with. Period. You won't be allowed to do business with Landstar or Mercer cause Celadon doesn't do business with Landstar and already has Mercer has a business partner.

Well leave your job now with Schneider IC and come to Eagle and I bet you return to Schneider IC in three days. It has nothing to do with cheap freight or the driver, the program is set up for you to fail period. Some guys will do good cause they will sell that, but 95 % of the drivers won't do good cause it is set up for them to fail from day one. But hey, your decision and we all grown so do what is best for you but I am saying don't be stupid and leave Schneider.
