yep they were smaller lghtweight diesels that were turned up by the manufactures to get the best torque to weight ratio out of. The Volvo were supercharged and turbo charged they died easily.

The Yanmars were a maranized inline 6 315 horse 4 liter Toyota excavator motor. They had it propped to turn 3600 at max rpm.. Motor would go through exhaust manifolds and turbos like a kid in a candy shop and after a 1000 hours didn;t have 60 percent of the compression anymore.. Following years they had the motors propped to turn 4200 and they quit going through turbos and we got more hours out of the motors.

A lot of the big turned up diesels put in the sportfishing boats suffered from the short same affects and led short lives.

the lightweights, including the cat 3208 were marine application, by marine application they meant anchors, not power plants.

    Exactly .

What I am trying to say is how can the correct torque range and longevity of a totally stock Detroit be compared against one that has the ECM dumping more fuel and a larger turbo dumping more air into a engine creating a lengthened combustion period which creates more heat.

But I do now rescind my theory that the scarred bearings are from being hammered

Do you really not care whether it works or not?

Wow! I've been doing it wrong. If only I had known I could choose "downhill routes" I could've been getting 10mpg all this time. Wait! There's more. If I buy stuff from Pittsburgh Power, aw hell, I just can't make any sense out of what he's saying...
