As did I, but that is not the same thing. You are talking about modifying something to suit a singular purpose as opposed to meeting the demands of mass-produced, multi-purpose vehicle. Can you make a Class 8 diesel more efficient? Yes. Can you get it to make more power? Yes. Can you make it more reliable, quieter, cleaner, etc.? Yes, yes, yes. Can you do all those things meeting price points, warranty, etc.? Darn difficult to do... even when being done properly, which clearly the Signature Truck was not.

Some of the mods do work but many gain so little that you will never see the return on investment. The biggest mod is the left foot. Or maybe even the entire dummy behind the wheel. Most of what is being pushed is horse manure. That is why I drive a 379, hated by the kool aid drinkers, with 24 tall rubber, hated some more, general dd660 drives really hated, but I spend some time in the mud and sand, and a big ole kitty under the hood, just down right despised, I pull mostly oversized and almost always heavy and still get 7.0 -7.5 mpg's. Running 62 -63. The life of the truck is 6.5(since I owned it ) and I used to drive it really hard. My mpg's are as good or better than a lot of these guys dumping thousands into there plastic throw away trucks. Yet the head kool aid mixer says he wouldn't take my truck if it were given to him and he would leave the tires on the side of the road. He is trying to sell things for the sponsors. A lot of what he is trying to sell could be tested on a dyno with measured amounts of fuel but they don't want to do that......cause they don't want everyone to know the truth.
Dale thompson, tsavory and Lone Ranger 13 Thank this. -
We're do all these throw away trucks end up. Must be massive piles of them at the junk yard by now. I mean considering 1 of 3 otr trucks purchased is the Cascadia, then add the plastic KW's, pla st tic Pete'sand Internationals, etc., that must mean at least 4 of 5 new trucks are them plastic throw away trucks, the pile must be massive, I mean massive. Also must be well hidden cause I'm not seeing it.

What I mean by throw away are trucks that are typically not worth the cost of a rebuild at a million miles. And many of them get shipped to Mexico and it also looks like a lot of them get used for yard dogs in ports and other places like that. Hey, I have just purchased a new one myself and put a company driver in it. My old 99 is as tight as the new one and it has 1885852 miles on it. But it does cost a lot to keep it tight. I just spent $23,000 to rebuild the moter in it in August. Do I think I would spend that kind of money on a 16 year old Columbia? I don't know but I highly doubt it. Only time will tell I guess. But that is what I mean by a throw away.

But I wouldn't have a problem putting another 1.5 million on my throwaway truck... -
Do you have facts about exporting or did you hear it on XM radio? LOL.
-
Which emotion do you speak of. The irrational decision that I see are the ones blindly buying crap that they will never see a return on just because some clown gets on the radio and pushes the junk every night. He talks about doing the hard work.....well to me the hard work is finding a better rate. Not adding more wiz bang gizmos to a truck. As an o/o if you are always running for $1.38 a mile you could almost get free fuel and still not be making what you could or should be. Kinda like the one he was talking to last night about focusing 100% of his effort on getting his fuel cost down from $.60 per mile. While I do agree that that is high I would have told him to focus 100% of his energy on improving his income. But that's just me.
