So here's my question: anyone have any good solutions for setting up a laptop, standard keyboard and mouse, accessible in the sleeper and easy to keep out of the way when not in use?
I love to game and to whatever on the PC. I have a pretty hot-stuff laptop. But I HATE laptop keyboards and using a touchpad to game is just a joke.
So i need:
1. a platform to place my laptop on top of. (roughly 19 inches wide, 12 inches deep)
2 a second platform on which I can set up a mouse and standard keyboard. (roughly 24 inches wide, 18 inches deep)
3. any ideas how I'm going to sit up comfortably on the sleeper bed? Should I give up and use a standard chair and fold up the sleeper bed when I'm gaming?
4. Am I completely insane and just get used to a really uncomfortable situation and otherwise pay for coffee at a truckstop (when available) and take all my junk in there?
Any suggestions would be very helpful. The internet, including my gaming, is a MAJOR social outlet for me. It's what will keep me from being lonely and miserable OTR so it's a big deal to ME, even if it isn't for YOU.
I suppose I could cobble up something with plywood, hinges etc., but surely I'm not the only guy out there with this issue.
Thanks, -Jub

Do you use a standard mouse? I'm not much of a gamer anymore (although minecraft is a fantastic way to waste hours waiting to get loaded) but I use a logitech track ball mouse so I can just sit in bed with my laptop on my lap and the mouse beside me. With a hotrod laptop you could get one of those stands and set it on the bed so it's not actually on your lap so it cools better, not really an issue with mine.
To answer your questions directly
1. They make all kinds of stands that will keep your laptop elevated with air flow underneath to keep it cool
2. If you use a traditional mouse I can see the issue but real gamers use track balls anyway, just set the mouse next to you and the keyboard on your lap
3. I just sit with my back to the sleeper wall, shove a pillow behind my back if I need it and I'm fine for an hour or two at least.
4. It's not all that bad in the truck but all trucks are different so depending what you're running you may have different options. -
Cascadias have a slide out platform for doing paperwork and holding a laptop, you could put a mousepad and mouse on there and place your laptop in the open cubby area right next to it. You'll be able to sit on the bunk and game. It won't be the most comfortable setup, but it's the easiest thing I can think of.
I never did much gaming in the truck, just used my laptop and played n64 emulators every now and then, but I had my dog and didn't have much free time.
Also, how do you plan on getting a connection? Truck stop internet is horrible and tethering to a cellphone can burn up your data quickly. -
My gaming laptop is like 17 inches and weighs about 15lbs i use a normal gaming mouse too and my laptop keybord. no problems yet unless u let it hit ur floor and have to replace ur screen lol

Also make sure to always leave your laptop on the bed, or cushioned surface when driving. I lost a couple of screws from mine because my wife left it on the dash.

Very true it's also bad for the parts as it can break the sod joints

I have a 19" monstrosity. I actually enjoy getting it out of the truck and bringing into the truckstop. It is a hog and uses so much power that I swear it leeches of trucks parked beside me. Plus then I have access to a potty and food and such and I don't have to put anything away.
Here's a tidbit. Alot of the fast food restaurants in the truck stops have their own WiFi and it's free. But you have to be in the place.
I think gaming kept me sane while I was on the road. It gets irritating when people look over your shoulder and try to talk to you while you're playing, but that's only because truckers are usually very social with each other and they are usually only trying to be nice. -
hook an xbox controler up to it

I play league of legends for the past couple years and have no problem playing on my laptop using phone for internet. Only updates eat up data. I just set my laptop where you would set your TV and put the mouse on a shelf, fridge anything close by. Laptop has been going strong over 2 years with no issues. You could also look into the new Alienware gaming system that hooks up to a tv. Still need room for keyboard and mouse but it looks pretty cool.
