You have a standard dash cam, and only forward facing?
    I don't have a problem with those.
Mine broke, and I'll be replacing it soon. They are a great asset if the driver isn't being totally reckless and stupid.

As to "the cam is coming, your not going to quit, there is a ong line of drivers waiting to take your place."
I can only say that Swift can not live on new drivers alone.
They NEED the experienced and long term SAFE drivers to maintain a decent safety rating.

After over 4 years OTR with Swift as a safe and productive driver, with a Platinum rating...
Swift needs me more than I need Swift.
I can go ANYWHERE I want, any time I feel like it.

that is why so many refused t drive the "test trucks" last year.

i have a 2016 and there are cams in my truck. The lease trucks are the exact same trucks as the company trucks, they simply get different stickers on the outside of them and a different loadout in their quallcomms. They do this so that if a lease op fails they can just roll the truck back into the fleet.

It is also why after this year you will no longer get to pick anything but the color of your truck, no more options other then make and color, the transmission the radar safety system all that is picked by swift not the lease signer.

Regardless my truck has 20,000 miles on it i got it brand new, so its got a good long while before they "retire" the truck

    this right here.

my rating is gold until they reverse the equipment failure preventable they threw on me. Still even with that i was at MATS last month and got at least half a dozen job offers on the spot.

Also keep in mind they are starting to blame the mentors for students screwing up after they go solo. My old mentor and several other mentors i know have been kicking more and more people out of their trucks because they are not where they need to be fresh out of school because they do not want to risk them screwing up after they are off their truck.

No company can survive on new drivers alone. Forward facing cams are a good idea, but the driver facing one is what is pissing drivers off. The only thing a driver facing cam will do is throw the driver under the bus, no matter what happens they will twist it to make anything that happens the drivers fault.

These other people picked jobs that don't require a camera being there. Your job is going to have a camera, so either change companies or careers. Whining wont get you anywhere in life.

Cameras have never, NEVER, been required in this job.
They certainly were not even a consideration - for ANYONE in this industry - when I hired on.
Your point is senseless and moot. And that is as non-insulting as I can be without getting kicked off this board.

    Whining?
    No.
I've just been expressing my concerns.

A big reason I left my last company was they installed cams in the truck. I won't be recorded while driving hours in a day, NOPE ain't gonna happen. It's wrong on a few levels but mostly just general privacy that these ***holes are invading. No respect at all for drivers anymore, it's all about CYA and that's the bottom line.

And if anyone thinks that the camaras come on when a "critical event" happens your sadly mistaken, they will randomly come on all through out your day. You can be cruising along and that light comes on and it will stay on for how ever long they wanna watch you for, it's a load of BS they say "nobody can see footage unless a event happens" yep...not true. If all drivers stood up to this BS they wouldn't do it. Plain and simple

I have to agree with this. Think about it, if you drive safely and don't ever trip the critical event sensor, just put a piece of black tape over the lens, watch how fast they tell you the lens is obscured. Hmmmmm, if the event never happened they had no reason to turn on that camera, how did they see that the lens was taped over?

The truth is, no matter what they tell us as to how the camera operates, it can do whatever they want whenever they want.
It's simply a few chips and a few small programs, after all.

They don't need an SD card, but they can include however many GB of storage they feel like having for not much more per unit.
The camera can have Wi-Fi to communicate with the QC.
And the cost of data transfer goes down if you can make a good deal. A company as large as Swift can afford to transfer what they want.
Just because I pay $130 for 20GB doesn't mean Swift would pay $1,300 for 200GB, or 13,000 for 2TB. It doesn't work that way.

That is an excellent suggestion, just to learn what they are actually doing and seeing.
