They are using BG moa. Could be just another snake oil, but it seems to have a fair number of positive reviews. Then again, so did Slick50...

No need to go to PP for your magic treatment -- can probably get it at your local NAPA.

Malinson said the technology has been around for a while, just never used in semi engines, IIRC. I don't exactly remember 100% what the article said, sorry. Other than adding a chemical to the oil, letting it idle for 15 or 20 minutes and then dropping the oil and filter.

I learned long ago that you cannot out engineer the factory.When I rebuild automobile engines,I try to stay away from trick components.Smokey yunicks book power secrets is a great read.Most of his concepts apply to any engine.

Everyone has different skill levels, and yes you can out engineer the factory. We did it all the time with motorcycles.

Next time you get elbow deep in grease pulling wrenches, wash your hands with ATF and notice how clean they become, other than they oily residue of course. Putting ATF in an engine and running it to clean sludge and such is an oldschool thing. Not saying they are using ATF but, as said earlier it probably same thing they are using and jacking the price up. Companies like that are same as parasites living off unsuspecting host... Lot of drivers with no mechanical knowledge, that does not mean they can't drive a truck, just means they look for others to fix their truck and can be taken to the cleaners unknowingly. Asking ?'s beforehand is always good.

I've been turning wrenches for a long time. My empty weight would probably drop ALOT if I ditched my tools. Free up a lot of space too. I have never heard about ATF like that before. Interesting.

I believe the oil is either good enough to do the job, or it isn't. And I think the manufacturers have a better idea than most what threshold is good enough. If you were to run a steady stream of brand new oil inside one engine and used serviceable oil inside another, I suspect you'd get a million plus miles out of both (but I'll give you the one with new oil probably should last a bit longer).

For me, personally, I haven't yet run oil past 25k on my truck. I probably will go to 30k on this oil, but I'm in no hurry to set records.

Folks like Dice, on the other hand, seem to be doing OK going 100k (without bypass filter). But keep in mind he's a 10mpg truck. I'm high 8's. KR's theory that oil change intervals ought to be proportional to mpg may have some merit.

You are right, hours is more important than miles, but so is fuel consumption. I know the last Cummins ISX Owners Manual I looked at had recommended drain intervals adjusted for mpg. So does some other manufacturer's info, like these Detroit Diesel documents, "NOTE:The oil drain intervals are based on engine hours and fuel consumption."

DD15 Maintenance Intervals

Fuel consumption tells you how hard the engine worked for a given time/distance. I am assuming that most new cars that have oil change information on the dash work on that principle.

Certain of which? Cowpie when he drains his oil at 25k , could send off a second sample of oil out of the bottle and the lab results would be hard to tell apart. Him changing it at 25k is what he is comfortable with. And there is nothing wrong with that. The CAT we rebuilt at 1.5 was running a bypass filter, and draining at 100k . It blew a head gasket, planned on doing it while it was down, CAT saw the liners and bearings . They were saying fix the gasket and run it. But we were pulling it down that far , just do the whole 9 yards. No telling how far she would have ran. There is one member here that has over 2 million miles on his engine with out rebuilding. And this was before KR had a radio show, so he had no part of it. His ideas have been around before him, he just has a show (now) to tell people about them . And there is no silver bullet that works for everyone.

Yep. At the engineering level, when it comes to motors, everything from wear rates to oil consumption and change intervals is all tied to fuel burn. It's why the change intervals & consumption limits change based on duty cycle.
