Run away !!!! My old contractor paid 25% on a 1099 and I nearly starved to death. Even 30% and him paying his share of the taxes I would still pass on that job.

    After 14 months, I left.

Our top earner made 57k that year. After he pays his taxes, he'll be lucky to take home $40 and that's not including health insurance.

    roadawg86 Thanks this.

Blind Driver. Are you no longer at Mercer or did you buy your own?

Well hopefully I can make it with this guy I've talked to.. Just trying to stay positive about it all.. Just not in the position to out right buy a truck an lease it on @ the moment. Which I know is the best way to go of course. Maybe this time next yr I can.. Well that's the plan but hey stuff happens and plans can change anytime..

Drivers looking to run for a contractor would be wise to consider the financial viability of the operation. More precisely, is the equipment paid for or is everything bank owned? The answer to this question will provide insight into the mind of the owner and help to determine if the operation has the endurance to grow and become prosperous!

Another equally important consideration for a driver starting with a young company might be: Are there added benefits for drivers who signs on early in the growth process? If you think about it, the company can't successfully grow without good drivers and it's reasonable to expect an added bonus for those who help grow the biz!

I'm gone. Drove dump truck locally. Now I'm pulling a van to Cali and back. I want to be with Landstar with in a year.
