I'm curious as to how many on here have emailed the link in the video? Is that where you learned that it will be a critical event, OceanDan? Or is it truck stop hearsay? I know a driver from my terminal was upset about the camera, emailed the address provided, and was called by Richard Stocking the next day. They hashed it out and now he isn't upset. Personally, I don't care. If they want to hear my crappy music and see my ugly face, more power to to them. It's their truck. If I decide I want it gone, owner op I go.

And that may be what they are pushing for.
But if I have to go O/O or L/O, it won't be with Swift.

As to what they can view and when, we simply do not know. For all we know these cameras could be on 24/7, whether the truck is running or not. I have not seen anything on the matter.
All that is said is... "We can't see you in real time". But downloading the last file only takes a few seconds.
Not real time, but very close if they want.

But I do gather that the cameras are Wi-Fi capable, because unless they are wired directly to the QC they are using Wi-Fi to communicate.
Wi-Fi is a two way street; it sends as well as receives. So does being directly wired in.
At any time they can access whatever files are stored to download and view. How far back in time is determined by the memory capacity of the camera.
With the low cost of memory, I doubt it is only 20 or 30 seconds.
I just bought a 16GB SD card at a cost of under $15. That much memory can store several hours of 1080P video/audio.

    And yes, it records audio.
A picture may be worth a thousand words; but add the words and you have the whole.
And if they are recording a private conversation while you are idling in 90 degrees? Might that effect you if they hear something they don't like?

"Hi honey, how's it going? Great to hear, but I'm not getting the miles here anymore and now they have a camera watching me all the time. I've been applying to other companies and I think I found something better.
When I get home I'll be turning in my truck and going to XYZ."

Now, if I were the listening party in a shady operation, I would try to cut my losses and make it as difficult on that driver as possible to get home.

Far be it from me to say that this is what will happen. I'm just imagining possibilities.
When Richard says to discount rumors and hearsay... well, it is just that.
I can be a fear monger when I feel like it.
Heck, I think I could out evil the Devil himself if I really put my mind to it.

Adieu, OceanDan, sisterannie and 2 others Thank this.

I respect that, Moose. My point was that certain people should probably get all the facts before they flip out. If people are trashing swift all over TTR, but at the same time don't quit or find out the facts before they start bashing, that doesn't say a whole lot about them as a person. Your point makes sense. However with 18,000 trucks we are talking thousands of terabytes of data each day.

I'm waiting for more info. I used to have a system made by the same company in my patrol car in a previous career. Once I activated emergency equipment it would record from two minutes prior until after the emergency equipment was off.

And my department couldn't pull video that wasn't in these conditions. In car and out.

We eventually went to a constant record system that burned to dvr due to the threat of civil litigation... But that was for a completely different career field. I'm waiting to find out more about ours.

It is always a constant record system.
It can't record from 2 minutes prior any other way.

And if it is being recorded and stored for at least 2 minutes, it can be copied for that time.

Phase two installation for otr drivers is scheduled for November. That's a good time to job hunt. Swift scheduled the better jobs for phase one. Probably figure less guys will quit a dedicated gig while they feel the attrition rates out. With all my lizard friends, Swift can make a porn series with the footage off my in cab unit.

    OceanDan Thanks this.

Well I'm hoping that it will get fixed.

Also recently got a new DM. Now I don't get accelerated pay. Only BOL's I scan in by Wednesday. With my old DM I was being paid for loads that I finished on Thurday. Not scanned in, just delivered.

So did policies change? I don't have any missing BOL's.
