Ok, here it is, my previous years report card. It's now 2 years and a week since I came over to Abilene. I have a home short and simple. After 35 years of this I'm still trying to find the perfect company, hopefully, by the time I retire I can say I have...right.
This last year has brought some trying times for my wife and myself medically. As I sit here I can gratefully say we have weathered those storms and look forward to a healthy future. Doing what we do, it's very difficult taking care of personal issues while on the road. For me, it was a no brainer. I got Abilene involved ASAP with what was going on and did what I had to do. Abilene stepped right up and gave me what I needed to be home for my wife and myself when medical tests and procedures were needed. The way they gave me what I needed during those times far outweighs anything else in my job.
I left my last job for one reason and one reason alone, after 4 years of impeccable service, I was turned down for a raise. I left for the appreciation factor. Here at Abilene I see and hear the appreciation every day. I enjoy the job even after all these years. In a nutshell I will say this, for me and only me, I'm very happy here. I have top notch equipment to drive, get home when I schedule it, never lay over, and most importantly, can walk into anyone's office and discuss an issue or problem that might arise.
My work ethic, pride in my job, and the relationships I have built here are what drives me. I want to make more money, sure, but it's the whole picture that keeps me here. I live in South Florida, I know no company that I would want to work for hires south of I-4, Abilene does, and it was a match made in heaven. I'm not looking for anything different this next year, if it stays exactly as it did this last year then I'll have another year under my belt.
My last report card from last year was a B+, this year I am giving the company an A, for the sole reason that I needed them this past year for medical issues that arose, and without hesitation on their part, it was given, with no questions asked.
There are issues that arose recently, but when I researched my records, I found that my complaints weren't justified. My miles are a consistent 3100+ per week, and I get home. When I complained about miles, it was because I went from doing 6 loads in 2 weeks, to 12 loads in the same period. Miles were there, I was just working a little harder than I wanted to.
I'm not going to mention names, you all know who you are, but I will say this, everyone I work with and for is what makes me do the job I do. Thank you all for reading and here's to another safe year!Flatbedder 1966, Truckin' Monkey, wjejwan23 and 21 others Thank this. -
Nice to read about someone who likes their job and company and how the company works with and appreciates their driver

Glad your happy JB, here's to another safe and productive year for you.👍
JohnBoy and gntorres61 Thank this. -
I can second what John has said, even though I've had my issues here, I still believe Abilene is a good company that does stand behind their drivers as long as their drivers stand with Abilene. When people ask me about the company I tell them no job is perfect but all in all its a good place to be.
Flatbedder 1966, bigred81, FLATBED and 2 others Thank this. -
Hey Rebelchick, I saw a female Abilene driver this past week at the J in Smithton, Pa. Wearing a 49ers T shirt..... was that you?
