I've been flatbedding for over 2 years which isn't a ton of time but every load I never get to comfortable with. I don't freak out but I don't forget about the load I have behind me either.
-
I'm good with flat, smooth roads, but it's the post-winter potholes that give me the shivers. I think I got out to check securement about every hundred miles or so! And the amazing thing is, nothing has moved.
I'm sitting in a Pilot near Elizabethtown, KY for the weekend because apparently my DM neglected to tell me they're only open Monday-Friday. No worries. I like hearing pretty Kentucky women speak in their gentle Kentucky drawl...
But the stupid road crew who shut down the southbound side of I65 that caused me to lose about 80 minutes should be scolded. -
I did discover that I am 2 chains and 1 binder short, so I had to get creative with my chaining. But the load got here in the same position on the deck that they started out and I didn't have to relighted any of them. That's good. Getting them undone might be a challenge, though...we will see on Monday.

Do you have ratchet binders or snap binders?

Meaningless factoid: Since being assigned this truck in Emporia VA, I have driven it 84 hours and 3,883 miles. The bad thing is not all those miles are paid. Oh well...life is what I live, right?

I had one snap open and hit me in the elbow while chaining down scissor lifts once. Brought tears to my eyes

I know next-to-nothing about the flatbed side of the trucking industry so I'm curious, why would a company only allow a snap-binder instead of the ratchet binders? Is it because you can only get a snap binder just so tight and you can continue cranking on a ratchet binder, thus ultimately damaging the product you are trying to secure?
