I don't have a choice right now and I definitely do appreciate the support I get here.

I've had 2 days off and the taxi comes to fetch me in 30 minutes. Then back out I go, only this time, I'll be staying longer than I did the first time. Getting home from the truck stop is expensive and there's really no reason to return while the weather is good; Mr. Yard Fanatic next door might not like how tall my grass will grow, but hey...there are no locks on the gate. If he wants to mow my ½ acre, c'mon by!

You get the support here because you have the will and determination to make the best of a bad situation. Everyone likes to root for the underdog, and see success in the face of adversity.Sounds like WE is the bottom of the barrel as far as company ethics and support for their drivers but if the checks don't bounce as least that's something.

The checks haven't bounced, which is a very good thing. So far, even being the new guy, I'm running about 2500 miles or so a week, which isn't bad for a 62-mph truck.

But, just to remind me who really runs the show here, the Trucking Demons have taken over. AFTER I drove 30 miles here and AFTER the yard guys moved the trailer to the plan to be loaded and AFTER the yard guys moved the loaded trailer back to my pickup spot, then and only then did the rear forward axle brake valve decide to fail, thus locking me here until the local truck repair company gets here. In 60-90 minutes. After that, it's the brake valve repair process.

    Oy.

If it's not one thing, it's another...

And, of course, as soon as I write that, the guy calls. He thinks he knows what's wrong and will be here. "In an hour or so."

Found me! And it only too 1½ days...not bad. Next project: how to attach a photo when I get one.

Might be hard sticking to your guns DD about calling about every little fix on your
equipment! Granted this one's not little by the sounds of it, but if they are paying
for the breakdown, then its not a complete kick in the #$="?. Or are they?

They're actually pretty good about taking care of discrepancies as quickly as they can. As for do-it-myself repairs, well, I was in commercial aviation as a career field for 40 years and there, only FAA-certificated mechanics can fix airplanes, even replacing bulbs, so calling my broken stuff in is a long-developed habit for me. And, this being a 'bucket list' occupation to augment my retirement funds, I'm not quite as money-focused as some, so missing a mile or 200 isn't a killer for me.
