I've been caught in NJ with no place to go ( twice ). Once turned wrong and was facing a weight restricted bridge. Once took wrong road and would have topped the trailer. What is interesting is both times, bear was almost right on top of me. Both times I popped my four ways, got out to see where I needed to back out, and that's when bear would show up in minutes. Both times bear, once a she bear ( and it was very embarrassing for me, as I'm a me Tarzan you Jane kinda dude ), put there lights on and blocked traffic without ever even saying a word, and assisted me until I got straitened out. Both times, they split before I could even thank them.

Still though, the idea of an under ride accident would be a non-issue if people would pay attention to the road instead of their mobile devices. Like Hammer said, you can't fix stupid.
And I say, don't punish the rest of us for other peoples' stupidity either. Show them the door and leave the good drivers alone.WesternEmpire and Hammer166 Thank this. -
That said, it would have to be a lot farther than 1/3 mile to back out before I'd try it. Who knew you could use reverse in high range? LOL. I'd be back at the docks in the time it would take to check the shoulder and set up for the turn. With the gap between docks, the blindside would be a no brainer (therein lies the problem).
Funny finding this thread today. Friday I delivered at a place with a somewhat awkward layout. The dock was down a 2 lane driveway about 25' wide, positioned in a fashion you could A> Easy blindside 45º or B> Go past, do a miracle u-turn at the back of the yard, then alley dock sight-side due to jersey barriers at the head end of the driveway. The trucks before and after me chose "B" and took three times as long to get in there. The maroon before me was in a long hood Pete and did "B" twice! I guess he pulled around there the second time to reduce the waddling distance to the shipping counter.Hammer166 Thanks this. -
Maybe it's the special forces and seal training they all had. You know never retreat

There are highways in Michigan where you are required to make a U-Turn to turn left. Just have to have enough sense to know if it's safe. Same goes for missing your turn and finding the right place to turn around......maybe 10 miles down the road.
