That's the difference between dedicated and OTR for unloading.
No, that is not bad money for the time it takes - if you have the extra stops.

Yeh, I had 3 stops my last load, which was nice since each store was 800-1000 pieces...my first load I had 2 stops with the last one being 1800 pieces...I thought I was going to die

He huffed about it a little, that's all.
There was a "Fine, if you don't want to help...", and then he barely looked at me from then on.
He had two much younger guys than me to unload only 18 pieces of furniture.
I probably would have just gotten in the way.

I have jumped in to help on certain live unloads before.
Once with a trailer full of loose boxes - no pallets at all - I went in to help move them all to the rollers.
I didn't even claim a driver assist on that load. I was just getting bored and wanted to get things moving a bit faster.
When I got tired I went back to the cab and let them finish it up.

But garbage like when I might have to unload a trailer full of tires, and be climbing up a stack of tires to get the top ones all for 25 bucks? Nope, and HECK NO!

If you are young enough, and fit enough, it is OK.

In my 'younger' years I was a helper for moving companies, for a time.
Loading moving vans for $50 per day.
I thought I would die with some of those, as well.
But I'll be turning 60 this year and I've already had 3 hernia operations. I'm not about to strain myself any more than I have to.

Oh, and are we required to check on the truck every day while on hometime? I'm parking my truck at a truckstop and was thinking about going out of town for a night about 5 hours away...idk if Swift would look down on that or what...

I don't blame you one bit. I'm 31, and feel much older after some of these loads.

It would depend on where you park it.
If it were in Otay Mesa, CA, or a few other places that are very high risk areas it could be a problem.
It shouldn't be a problem if it is in a fairly good area.

Make sure your curtains are shut when you leave.
It makes it look more like someone is inside sleeping.

I'm turning 60 this year as well and there is no way I would do any of the Dollar accts. I drive the truck and I'll put the trailer wherever you want it but I don't touch freight. Swift doesn't even come close to paying enough for that nor am I risking an injury.

Last year I had a 2-stop in MT of palletized cattle vitamin stuff. Did the first stop in Miles then eased down to Billings to a cattle feed store that had no dock. Their guy takes a fork truck and lifts a manual pallet Jack onto to the back of the trailer and tells me I can use it to bring the pallets to the back of the trailer. I looked around because I thought he was talkin' to someone behind me. I told him fairly frankly that I wasn't moving #### with that jack and he better go get a helper. He got his boss out there who told me the same thing but with an attitude. Told him real quick I didn't give a #### about his tone and if he wanted his stuff HE had better help his boy get it off the trailer. We had a few more choice words but in the end THEY unloaded their stuff.

If I wanted to handle freight I'd be running local LTL and going home every night.

    gsmith2332 and Moosetek13 Thank this.

Question, assume you wanted to help unload when asked by the receiver. If a driver unload or assist is not included in the original load plan will Swift pay you if you later submitted a pay request or decline because it was not in the plans?
