renewed my physical this year, no mention anywhere on the form for bmi or neck size. doc didn't say anything about it either and I'm a big guy.

think it's still the doctor's discretion so not everyone is doing it.

I don't think you'd be too happy to get tested, YOU pay for the sleep study which can be over $1000!

    Do you snore... NO!
Are you tired during the day...NO!
    Do you wake up tired....NO!

Just loose weight and don't worry about it. No need to spend tons of money and make getting a job hell for yourself.

Sleep studies are not that expensive now. They send you home with a small recording device.

I am not a driver as yet but keep up on this site because my job of 19 years has been laying people off left and right. I decided 2 years ago to go get myself tested for sleep apnea with my current insurance even though I have zero symptoms although I am over the BMI mark. Turns out I have a severe case of sleep apnea and have been on a cpap for almost 2 years now. No symptoms does not mean you don't have it. I did not snore, was not tired and was getting REM sleep, just was waking up 70+ times a night and O2 level dropping in the 60% range, even though I did not know it.

Just wanted to throw out my experience. I'm going through Prime's PSD now. My physical was yesterday, and the doc mentioned that my BMI is 37. She says I'm near the mark for a sleep study but that it wouldn't be required for me.

This seems to correlate with reports that the sleep study cutoff is ~39 for PSD students. I obviously can't report what it's like for existing employees.

There is a home health place in my hometown that will do it for free. However, I think most people fail it no matter how much they study!

BMI is a joke and has exactly zero to do with what shape or what kind of health a person is in. I'm 5'7"... according to that calculator I would need to be 159 lbs to be on the highest end of the normal scale. When I was in the military 10 years ago consistently maxing out the APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) and in the best shape of my life I was about 185 lbs which is a borderline "obese" 29.0 on the BMI scale. So I think I'll pass on giving the BMI scale any thought of legitimacy.

According to BMI charts I'm supposed to be 145lbs. There's no way that's happening! I'd look like death.

I love the title of this one.... "DOT exam, new BMI requirements?"..
there is NO REQUIREMENT to check BMI or any requirement do to a sleep study if you have a bmi over any number.... you can be 5ft weight 500 lb's with a bmi of 60 and your still not reqirened to do a sleep study.....
