A vast amount of freight is under contract with a rate locked in by Schneider I think.
Since I've been here there's been a lot of shippers I've been to where the rate has remained the same (besides FSC).. I'm talking from Dec till now.
The only thing that's a definite definite is cheap freight out of New England, Florida and Colorado.
Well I can't say that.. when New England was under 4 feet of snow that was the only time there was some good rates out of there which would fall under more freight and few trucks (that aren't snowed in lol).
Picking my own freight baby! My journey to & of being on Schneider choice, the Adventure & Numbers!

I've followed the rates since I've been here..I have every rate I've pulled at.
They are constantly moving up and down..the FSC is changing all the time.
It seems like SNI doesn't follow it too closely.
Our bonus at the pump seems to be behind by 2 weeks or so..which can cause some concern.
IMO SNI could give a better bonus..some weeks it's a joke.
I've talked with a couple of other companies(yup..thinking about leaving) about their fuel bonus and they are higher then SNI..and yet SNI is bigger than just about anyone out there.
According to most of the freight publications I read..SNI hauls about 10% of America's freight.
Which is huge..so where's the love?
It's in someone else's pocket..not mine.
So on to some of the turmoil that has been posted here the last few days.
Now granted I do well here..I run a lot of the same freight week to week.
SNI Choice is a great program..But.
Load planners post loads all over the place..there is no specific day the load board refreshes.
So run those cheap loads while we get things up to speed..which I believe is their strategy.
Then a lot of the loads are described as Preload/Drop...and turn into live on one end or both.
No compensation..so sorry..after all YOU knew what you were getting into when you signed up.
HUH?!
No I must have missed that part..but hey whatever.
Detention is a joke..give up 6 hours before getting a paltry amount..F U take the load off me.
My time is VALUABLE..bit not according to SNI.
Which leads into M/T searches..good luck with that.
Out of route when there are trailers closer..not wanting to pay you for going to get one because technically it's not out of route..whatever.
So you have to be flexible and think on the go.
Do what's good for your business.
And not share everything with your fellow IC's..it's tough enough without giving away my mastery of the darkside of Choice.
I'm mean hell most IC's wont even wave to you or talk to you..but again I'm cool with that.
It's not a warm and fuzzy world..works for me.
All I'm trying to say it's not all Roses here in Choice land..it's better than most companies though.
As we DO have control of where, when and how much.
As for Whipper..well honestly you talk ALOT of crap for someone with 30K on their truck.
For the short amount of time you've been driving and on choice you come off as an expert and know it all.
So you rub people the wrong way..some love you some don't.
Me..I don't care one way or another.
No more being nice and PC..like it was said a few weeks back..RANGER UP!
Sorry for the book but I do love to rant!
Peace out and word to your Mother.Dinomite, Drifter42, Newbeav Newbie and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've appreciated you posting up your experiences FW...before following Sadwar and yourself, I never even new this program existed. While every job/program will have its pros and cons, Choice seems like the best of its kind out there and I'm sure quite a few people never would have known about it. I'm just coming into this industry but just like every other career field out there, everyone was a newbie at some point, and anyone coming into a career field with an open mind not only learns from their experiences, but also from the knowledge they gain from veterans in that field. I can't understand why some people can't remember where they came from and judge someone for trying to share knowledge with rookies when someone at some point did the same for them. Anyway, my rant over lol..stay safe!

However compare here to any other company that will lease you a truck.. yeah there is no comparison unless you enjoy driving for $1.20 and having a dispatcher.
This thread was about sharing my experience and journey here. What works for me and how I manage my lifestyle is up to me... as if different for everybody. That's not talking a lot of crap and know it all.
I'm still learning, trying to figure things out and have made mistakes.
As far as the truck miles goes well... I've been sick twice, took 2 weeks off going on a cruise, took a week off visiting family, took another week for visiting an old friend, my truck issues wasted pretty much two weeks also oh and yeah my father nearly died and I had to drop everything and go to Florida for nearly two weeks.
Add all that up and that's two months of not working off the top of my head.
With all that time off I'm not exactly raking in the dough.. when I am working I'm doing well though. I didn't come into choice being broke. I'm a single man with kids, no car and barely any living expenses. There's never much need for me to be home or anywhere really. So my lifestyle and decision making on choice is likely different than most others. That doesn't make me better or worse than others, Know it all or stupid. Everybody has different desires and priorities. As Sadwar said.. I'm free to go for the best load always because I don't have anyplace I need to be and no wife or nothing. So my time on choice you have to view in that aspect.
I finally start my own thread here after how long? If someone gets rubbed the wrong way by reading where I'm driving, how my day went and what kind of rates I've gotten then don't open my thread and read it.
Pretty simple eh?Last edited: Jun 12, 2015

It sounds to me that SNI choice really is only a choice to be mostly regional and not truly OTR unless you own your truck outright and don't have that high fixed weekly cost of a thousand bucks. Yes you pick you freight at a price that keeps you profitable but as FW keeps pointing out, it is mostly NE freight to maybe Indiana and back. What about Southwest, Northwest, long runs that are relaxing? Numbers aren't every thing. I got into trucking to make a living while enjoying what I do. If Choice would get me around the country more it might sound better. And I believe a company should have a good reliable fleet if trailers. It costs time which is money for the driver to constantly fix old trailers.

Even if someone bought a new truck that's what? $140,000-$150,000 so yeah not exactly cheap lol.
I'm basically running in the areas I did as a company driver. Long runs pay terrible.. thank rail for that. I haven't been out west yet but it doesn't look great out there.
Here the only time a long runs pays anything is into a cheap market for outbound freight.. like Florida or Colorado.. the Northeast comes third.xlsdraw and Wild Murphy Thank this. -
Wintersville walmart tops out on the 70k+ a year. -
well I do know this...
This thread became entertaining but not for reasons I expected lmao -
Those numbers were from OTR drivers I met here.
I was in Gary, Indiana the other day wooo weee that classroom was jammed pack with noobs.Dominick253 Thanks this.
