LOL yep it's just a Prostar with a fancy mask. NO THANKS.

@sadwar nice thing about lone mountain is that the longer term means lower payments. APU probably runs around 8-10k so price wise... pretty close, but the LM truck is a much nicer package than the fleet trucks that SNI orders.

Downside being of course, you can turn SNIs truck in at the end of the lease if you don't like it... and you'd only be stuck with it for a year on a 1 year lease. You're in it for the long run if you go through LM, though I'm sure they allow you to pay it off early.

I did read somewhere that LM will charge extra if you run over a certain number of miles per month. Not sure if that was true I just remember running across it in a LM thread here. Something I'd ask about.

    Tough choice for sure.

Temperatures have been at or over 100* here over the past few days, and like I posted in another thread I spent a good few hours sweating my *** off taking apart my steering wheel to repair some electrical issues caused by water damage from the leaking sunroof. Well, there was a piece of a tree branch wedged in there, so guess that's my fault more than anything. But still... sometime's its just nice to have something that is new and works and is under a warranty. I know the issues you ran into with the used truck through SFI were incredibly frustrating and kept you in the shop a lot. What's to say that with a used truck you wouldn't go through something like that again?

I'm not trying to scare you away... at the same time I love owning my own truck and it's nice having a low payment and personally I don't mind working on it now and then. It's not fun when its 100* out, no way. But sometimes it's nice getting my hands dirty and fixing something myself. It's an old truck and easy to work on unlike these newer nightmares. But there are times when you just want to finish up the week and park the truck and know that in between the time you get home and the time you leave you won't have to touch a thing because it's all brand new, and if there is an issues, you take it to the shop and it gets fixed under warranty.

    Good luck on the decision...

How about those new Western Start 5700XE's that LM has? Can get them with the DT12 auto as well. Grab one of those and join the 80"+ sleeper crew. More room that you'll know what to do with. Plus it's the new Optimus Prime truck.

Tell me about it. I hope it still retains some of the true Western Star quality now that ... who is it, Diamler? that owns them along with Freightliner and whoever else now is in charge.

Cool looking new truck with a big sleeper and a reasonable wheelbase (good 10-15" shorter than mine). Plus the cabs on those trucks have SO much room it's ridiculous. If I was gonna be getting a truck from LM, I'd be ALL OVER one of them.

The only thing I dislike is I believe that even if you order one straight form the factory the only engine option is the Detrot DD series. Not that I don't like the DD engines, it's just that I like having OPTIONS. Didn't Volvo try that a while back? Don't think it went too well for them and now they're back to offering more than just their own engine.

True. But that DD15 is a powerhouse. If it's set up right, that's a real good engine, real strong. The 60 series was good too, but it would never have passed the new EPA garbage.

    Thanks for your thoughts..

I think I'm more comfortable going with SFI at this point.

#1, due to the current house situation I am in I am uncomfortable putting $16k+ down on a truck.

#2, I know SFI will have my back in any issues with the truck, just like they have with my previous trucks. Also, if I have any personal issues they will work with me on payment. I heard of a driver who leased a truck and then found out he had a brain tumor and had to take off five weeks. SFI just rolled over those payments to the end of the lease so he didn't have to worry about making a payment during that time. I'm pretty sure Lone Mountain wouldn't care...

I do agree the Lone Mountain truck is specced nicer. Maybe after doing another 1 to 3 yr lease with SFI AND I get the house situation resolved I can go through them...

I'm currently working with my SFI lease rep to see if I can get some other options on the APU when it's installed. I haven't told them yes or no yet on the truck, but I will probably go for it...

At least I don't have to contribute to the MMA!!!!

    Roll on....

not to mention that crap force engine that they make... the only thing that is good for is a paperweight, that engine is the biggest piece of garbage and I've ever seen

I just spoke to the ThermoKing dealer installing the APU on the lease trucks. He said it's no problem if I want to pay them direct for other options on the APU.

Think I'll get the 1800W inverter with two GFCI outlets installed; the 120 amp alternator, which replaces the standard 65 amp one, this will charge the truck batteries faster; and the brushed stainless steel condensor cover. Total for all this is an additional $985. Well worth it I think....

Now I just need to tell SFI I am getting the truck...

    Roll on...

Don't waste your money on the 120 amp alternator. The way thermoking sets them up it does no better than the 65 amp. When the a/c is running, it cuts back to 65 amp on the alt. They told me that the engine can't turn the 120 amp with the a/c running. ????? They told me that after installing the 120 and I took it back because there was no difference in charging. Oh and don't forget the Stainless exhaust pipe!!

It's part of the driver convenience package that includes the inverter and the outlets... I can't not get it...

But thanks for the info, I'll ask them about it for sure...
