GW Bridge is only tolled entering Manhatten, not leaving into NJ.

It's $95 big ones with a transponder, so don't be showing up with quarters.

Stay off the i95 bridge in Rhode Island, believe the truck fine was $2500 when my friend missed the 295 split back in 2008.

Convince your boss to get an EZPASS. Not only are the tolls cheaper, but you can roll through many of them, such as NJTP @ 55mph instead of stopping and waiting in line to pay. Accelerating to speed a few dozen times would eat the price of the transponder in fuel every day.

The lower level SB is down to 1 lane, so the Cross Bronx has been averaging 1 hour to go that 4 miles from the 95/678 split to the 87 corkscrew. Still saves about 30 mins from going around the 287 though, I despise the 287. We sometimes do 2 trips from Halifax, NS to Atlanta in a week and have to do the 287-78-81 and that 160 mi feels longer than the 320 miles through Virginia. 4 times a week is murder.

You probably need to get EZ PASS. Check your routes to find out how many tolls there are. Many places have tolls for just crossing a bridge or waterway.

The mountains in Montana? In Montana?

Come drive the Colorado million dollar highway and then talk about the "mountains" in Montana!

Try coal bank, molas, and red mtn pass in a big rig. That's some serious ####. Lol.

Want to test your mettle? Bring your 53' trailer down those two Lane passes. You can start with wolf creek for practice!

    The mountains in Montana.... Ha!

As for the northeast? Never been but heard it's hard to lock down parking. Best plan for early shut down times.

Here's a VERY important point that was touched on a few posts ago by 'hunted' . You can listen to the traffic feeds on your satellite radio. I hear they're not bad. I've ALWAYS listened to WCBS 880 on the AM dial. It has live traffic reports EVERY 8 minutes on the '8's'. They've been deadly accurate in my books for 30 years. You can start picking up 880 a long way out of the 'tri-state' area for route planning purposes. You can live stream them: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/

A testament to the power of their output - my house is EXACTLY 874 miles NE of NYC, and I can pick up 880 AM clear as bell as it 'skips' up the seaboard !

    FYI.

Sorry gang - completely off topic.
Why not run the 84 to Scranton and pick up the 81 there ? It's like less then 60 miles in the difference - with less tolls and FAR less traffic and road work.

Now, it's been a few years now, but I used to run Macon to Halifax that way ALL the time. Midland guys would leave hours before me, run the seaboard, and I'd still be at Dysart's long long long before them.
