Hello guys not a trucker yet i actually start school tommorow but I have a question about braking What if im on a city road that has a steep downgrade to it one with traffic lights and im in heavy traffic do i put on the parking brakes or just apply the brake (dont think this is a good idea why im asking) in a situation like this sorry if it is a dumb question i only been studying my states cdl manual never seen a situation like this mentioned in the book

If you put on your parking brakes it will (or at least should,) lock up your wheels.

I think what you are asking is; if you are on a slope, in traffic, while waiting to get through the stop light, do you pull the parking brake, or hold pressure on the pedal while waiting to advance with traffic?
If that is what you are asking; use foot pressure on the brake pedal to hold the truck. -
You set your parking breaks, then disconnect your red air hose, chock your wheels and when the light turns green you unchock your wheels,connect your red air line and release the breaks.
....I'm kidding. The break foot pedal is enough. -
