I was merely pointing to the fact that a few people have stated that it is prohibited by the fmcsr which isn't supported by proof they say they have. As far as being prohibited by company policy I agree with you.:biggrin_25520:

I run under my own authority not leased to any company. My policies are my own. If I deliver to a company that has a no gun policy for their employees how would I know? It does not apply to me and what is inside my truck for I am not their employee plus they don't give me employee policy manuals.

I recall years ago as a company driver going into certain plants that gave me strict rules to follow and sign before being allowed in. Since I have been running independent I have been able to avoid such places.

I think maybe twice out of going to hundreds and hundreds of docks I have only seen 2 signs at a truck entrance saying no guns allowed. Even then "DEPENDING ON THE STATE" if you have a legal CCW the sign doesn't make it always illegal to have the gun concealed unless they discover it and then you are asked to leave. This is the case in the state of GA for example. In NC you are illegal if there is a no gun sign posted at the entrance. Again the sign is rare.

I prefer to be armed rather than under the illusion that I am protected. I was a victim of an armed robbery 12 years ago and refuse to be treated the way I was then ever again. No police were there to help. They can't help, criminals don't attack where police are. Once I was able to call police, it took 15 minutes for the first to arrive! Not bashing police, just making a point about 911 calls. I believed I was going to be shot that night, there was a 50% chance it could have happened.

I have done much training and preparing for future possibilities to defend myself.

If any of you are against carrying guns, by all means don't carry one. By all means, don't break your companies policy. Not everyone should have have a gun.

There is no FMCSA law against it in a CMV. Only policies against it at most trucking companies.

One of the best weapons is actually required, your fire extinquisher. I knew a trucker that fired it off in the face of someone trying to attack him. He said the guy dropped like a rag doll and he thought he had killed him. A fire extinguisher is a blast of frozen co2. It's cold and it takes your breath away.

being a retired policeman,a 2 second blast of chemical spray towards you attacker limits the risk to the sprayer..the back lash is very minimal.

To be honest - that IS dangerous. If the recipient is too close to the exhaust nozzle, he can inhale the frozen CO2 and actually completely thrash his lungs.

Not that I mind the end result, but I'm not in the torture game. It'll likely take him a bit to die.

I'm more inclined to use Purple K or one of the other powders. 1) it's VERY effective - and can thrash their eyes and lungs, but won't kill them (maybe if they put the nozzle in their mouthes and inhale as you blast away) 2) when they run away, they're easy to find. That stuff gets into EVERYTHING, and won't vanish with a few pats. Probably not with a few washings, either. Just tell any cops to look for a guy who looks like he's covered in flour.

Further, CO2 extinguishers aren't kept in most trucks these days. Just those little worthless 10 pound jobbies. They're better in other ways, too. They're much easier to handle and get aimed in the right direction - and the cannister makes a good weapon in its own right. Self defense instructor called it the "spray 'em and brain 'em" tool.

Can anyone shed some light on the various Concealed Weapons laws out there? If I have a permit in AZ to carry one, would I need one for every state I'm running through? Do you carry one?
