    Hi all,

I'm not a trucker, but found this forum online.

I have a 1970 Dodge Dart that I need transported from San Clemente, CA to Austin, TX.

I contacted one of the online aggregate sites for brokers and am getting quotes around $740-$820 for most of them. I've had literally 27 brokers call or email nonstop for the past 24 hours.

Question - as you guys are the actual haulers, is there a trustworthy broker out there? I can't tell.

Also, is there a place I can just contact drivers directly as an end user and get a quote from the driver directly instead of dealing with the broker?

The car runs - and I'm not on a specific timeline. It's going from a friends place in CA to a mechanic I know in TX. The only other time I've shipped a car is when I moved for work & they did it. They used Dependable Auto Shippers, but I've looked at the reviews & DAS seems to have a poor reputation amongst users and drivers.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Side note - this car would be transported open, not closed & it's not a piece of junk, but it's not in great condition either - it runs & doesn't leak anything. Not sure if that makes a difference, but I feel it may based on other threads I've read.

    Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum, some brokers also run THEIR OWN trucks, see if you can get one of those guys and tell them you only want it on their truck, that way you are only dealing with one entity.

Or maybe one of the guys on here will PM you about the move. Not really what this is for but what's done is done.

I commend you for reading the forum & reviews etc. As mentioned above, ask who, if any of those quoting, own the trucks. Also ask if the car is going to sit at a terminal location long term. If there is a broker that is a particular pest, ask how much they are going to keep vs paying the truck. If they stay on the line, ask how much it costs for them just to post it on Central Dispatch. They will for sure hang up & not call you back. :) Sarcasm aside, it is good that the car runs & does not leak. That is one of the fears of transporting older cars with anything else on the trailer. Oil & fluids blow on all sorts of things while in transport.

Hi bhatnasx, welcome aboard. You didn't give your location, but a few years ago, my daughter moved from Wis. to L.A., and she contacted an outfit in the twin cities, and a very nice young man from Somalia, showed up with a pretty ratty looking FLD, and an open carrier. He barely spoke any English, but was a very nice guy, who was happy to have a job, even though, he was probably making $8.00/hr. and was planning to send for his family, who were probably living in a cardboard box. They charged my daughter $700 dollars, and 3.5 days later, he pulled up to my daughter's place in L.A. I doubt if you will be able to find a driver or truck owner to do this, as it may be a legal issue. For car transport, I suggest getting a Hemmings Motor News magazine ( great publication), and they have a section on car transport, like a hundred ads, so you should be able to find one. Good luck.

You may want to try Montway. I am not endorsing anybody. I just know they run CA east every week. You are picking up and delivering to 2 tough spots to move a vehicle between.
LA or Inland Empire to Dallas, not a problem. But 2 locales off the main route gets iffy or should I say pricey

Your not going to do much better then that. I would suggest taking one of those quotes. You could go onto Uship but your car may never arrive. You could also find someone with a stepdeck and move the car as what is called an LTL. Less then a truck load but your still going to pay close to the same.

Save yourself all the aggravation. Saving a $100 or so isn't worth it.

First off, most of the "Click here to get a quote" people, are sitting on their couch in their underwear, have a fax machine and a business license. Their website will have a bunch of nice trucks on it, of course these people don't own or even book trucks that nice.

You could call my guy Stretch with Spence Transportation at 866-779-9330.
A few others you could try are: Fisher Shipping, Ready Auto Transport.

    Cheaper isn't always the best.

You want to read the reviews and complaints about Montway! If you go to uship, check the DOT & MC number for a legal carrier.

I never said I endorsed Montway. I said they run east. In your next breath you say go USHIP.
