Hey drivers. I'm a writer who serves a variety of trucking schools, and I am looking to speak with a few truckers to become "expert" sources for stories I am working on. I need some truck drivers who are interested in talking a little about their experiences and offering tips to new drivers, much like many of you have done on this board already.

I will be asking both for answers to specific questions, and for your general ideas on things that can confound and confuse new drivers about the business. I am looking for your insight, and in return will quote you for the story and perhaps help establish you as an "expert" driver.

Anyway, if you're interested, please drop me a line. My email address is joershearer[at]gmail.com. I'd love to hear from some of you and use your comments in my stories!

Please, please, please, please, PLEASE ... make sure you interview at least 20 or 30 "drivers" to get a better sense of what is out there then choose the best "representations" you feel are available. I'm not going to go into exactly what I mean. If you do your homework, and interview ENOUGH drivers, you will understand what I'm talking about. Many of the "true experts" maintain a low profile, and many of those who jump to be considered an "expert" are anything but.

Someone posted a link to a story here that was written by a writer for Al-Jazeera. It was basically about a "typical trucker" and it was such an embarrassment to the industry and to the people.

Furthermore, please understand the difference between the owner-operator driver and the company driver, and the difference between the true OTR 48 state driver and the regional/home daily driver. They will all have completely different takes and viewpoints and key issues.

Thanks, STexan for thst advice. While I am a journalist, the articles I'm writing are meant to be more instructional and informative in nature. I'm looking to provide education to student drivers wanting to know what the driving experience is like more than spotlighting the profession in a news setting. Things like (these are total examples tat will get more specific the more I speak with people like you) "which endorsements should I get?" "Tales from the road," "4 essential trucking tips from drivers on the road." Stuff like that rather than "hard hitting" journalism. So don't worry about being misrespresented!

If you want an expert I'm the man for the job. Taking my 30 in the fuel island right now, so I got some time to to tell you about myself.

Well I started in the trucking industry as an Owner Operator with CR England. I leased a brand new truck with no money down and ran over 300 miles every week. Next thing you know I put about 500 chicken lights on my rig and 10" pipes. I go by Billy Big Rigger on the CB c'mon. I prefer to remain as stylish as possible while driving because you never know when the lady at the fuel desk wants a tour of your truck (if you know what I mean). That's why I wear sweatpants that I cut into shorts, a sweaty white tank top, and flip flops. You may have noticed my BlueTooth Headset that I'm wearing - I'm pretty important. But the most important piece of my equipment is my fingerless gloves - they keep my hands from..well..they just look cool.

I leave my piss bottles on top of the fuel pumps so other drivers know this is my territory. as I said earlier I'm an owner operator so I'm very concious about my fuel. That's why I draft other trucks just like Nascar. Yeah, I had a chance to drive for Nascar but there just wasn't enough miles in it for me.

The thing we can all give is a tip and suggestions But if you ask one question to 30 people you're going to get 50/50% of different answers. Trucking is weird a a majority of drivers haven't been trained right don't know better or have THEIR own way of trucking. For example I use Jake brakes in Dry wet and snow conditions..... now watch all the mega and ex mega carrier drivers tell me how I am a psycho and I am going to kill someone and my self. Something about how the trailer does a 360 back flip slaps a baby because their driver manager who never sat in a truck told them that,That will happen

I'd be happy to answer some questions, but only if you refer to me as an uberdriver; expert just doesn't cover it. See I'm not like these 48 state pansies who can't figure out how to run their big rigs to Hawaii or Alaska, I'm the real deal.
