Why not try applying for that grant money any way. Worst they can say is no. Maybe, just maybe you can spark a change in policy that might benefit you.

Good point, I agree with you mostly, and if your circumstances allow you to buy new, make sure you also buy and use an APU, the reduced idling will keep you out the dealer for emissions work. The 2012 and newer engine are much better but not perfect.

 

Only reason I would every have for moving to Cali, how long do I have to stay? LOL

 

I bet your apu is a real fuel hog, at least on paper.

 

Although I can agree wholeheartedly with your new truck assessment and that of the dealer parts, but I "think" we have seen the worst, by that I mean as you stated, the new trucks are getting better, but I also think that with most of these manufactures and the new trucks being on self-diagnosis, and with virtual technicians, SOME of this backlog will go away.

Having a truck running down the road and setting a code for a bad sensor, then immediately contacting the closest dealer that has the part that is on your route, while you are STILL DRIVING, will save countless hours of sitting, and waiting at the wrong dealership.

At least I hope this is the way it goes, believe me, I am well aware of the issues of the last couple of years, remember, I am running ALL 2010 trucks, supposedly the worst for these type of issues.

So you buy a new truck in CA you get to pay $12,000 in sales tax that I don't have to pay in OK, kind of cuts into tha buyout they "give" you.

 

I thought if you had your own MC# you are exempt from the sales tax and everybody gets to pay FET. I guess it would not surprise me if California would be a special case.

 

Yes, why would they do such a thing. More money in their pockets. I just gave my dealer the MC# and they set me up for no sales tax. When I got my IRP plates I believe I had to show proof of my MC# as well.
