Trucker falls asleep and runs over 6 bikers

My wife called me and told me about this... Im from greensboro. He is a POS for not stopping.

 

Sad thing to see. Prayers to everyone affected but there are several wrongs here, changing any one of them could've prevented the bulk of it.

I am not defending the truck driver in the least, but isn't it against the law to stop on an Interstate except for an emergency? But it is becoming more and more of a problem. People will stop on an Interstate to let the kids go pee or let the dog pee, it is unbelievable. But yet, I have never heard a ticket being issued to a motorist for this, I know in Va. truckers being issued tickets for this, but never heard a 4-wheeler getting one.

 

You are right Grouch, the Flying J in Winchester, VA was packed. Drivers sleeping in the fuel asle. So I decided to park on the on ramp. An hour later got a pounding on the door and a pissed off trooper that was ticket happy.

 

When commercial vehicles are involved there IS: § 392.3

 

You most probably got a ticket for "disobeying highway signs", fine plus 3 points. That is the most common ticket issued when a Va. trooper writes you up for parking on a ramp.

 

Yup, didn't even see the No Parking Any Time sign 100 feet in front of my truck!

 

Now how do you go about proving it in court? It's not a State Statute and I didn't prosecute federal charges the states DA does.

 

Oh but leaving the scene of a fatality or several is a serious charge and I hope they burn him with it!
