it is legal to tint your windows. not the real dark tint you are thinking of
by the reg's you can have up to 30% block, or 70% luminous transmittance..... my window tint is 27% block..... I've been stopped two times in 4 years by TxDOT for it and both times when they checked it it was OK....
""(d) Coloring or tinting of windshields and windows. Coloring or tinting of windshields and the windows to the immediate right and left of the driver is allowed, provided the parallel luminous transmittance through the colored or tinted glazing is not less than 70 percent of the light at normal incidence in those portions of the windshield or windows which are marked as having a parallel luminous transmittance of not less than 70 percent. The transmittance restriction does not apply to other windows on the commercial motor vehicle.""

But what about the static removable type. Is this fall under that same regulation.
I would think not as it's not applied or installed.

That stuff is no different than the "permanent" glued-on tint in the eyes of the law. It blocks more light than legally allowed, and they can write you a ticket for using it where dark tint is prohibited.

SOB....
Alright thanks my friend. -
Back in 2003, I had the drivers side windshield tinted halfway way because glare was killing me at night. I got a ration of crap from a DOT guy at the Florida entry scales. He noticed the tint on the windshield and asked me a couple questions about it. I told him why I had it done and who did the work for me. Well, he puts the meter on it and he tells me that my windshield was less than the 28% rule. He then tells me that it will be a $100.00 fine. ( if I an remembering it right ) I knew that the shop that installed the tint was straight up. They showed me the box/roll that they used and metered it afterwards. They did the top 1/2 of the drivers side windshield for me.
He was writing me up when I remembered that I placed the tint invoice with the meter results in my registration/insurance binder. After he handed me the ticket and told me to leave, I said no! I am going to the scale master. I brought the paper work into the scale house and spoke with the man at the counter. He was really nice about it and told me to have a seat, and hang out for a bit. After he spoke with the man who wrote me up, he came over to where I was sitting and asked for the citation. He told me to go on my way and be safe.icsheeple, Nitemare13, NavigatorWife and 1 other person Thank this. -

I'm so tempted to.. I would think if I get popped it will be a warning. As I can peel it right off. I made a template of window and cut exact fit so from the outside it looks like full blown tint job.
I'm asking for trouble, huh?
Just asking myself is it worth saving my skin or having deal with crap I might be given.NavigatorWife Thanks this.
