Veteran driver since 1987. The last truck I owned was back in 1999, W900 triple axle w/18spd & 444XT Cummins. Been company driver since.
Looking at purchasing 2016 KW T680 w/ISX15 and Eaton Ultrashift 10.
I haul a lot of paper loads around 44k with a Cascadia ISX15 & Eaton 10spd manual.
I'm 52 and shoulder and knees are shot. Also a disabled Army Veteran.
I've driven the older autoshifts and know they are slow on take off, but I always had an issue backing with them Seemed like you had to get the RPM's over 1000 - 1200 to engage reverse. Made me look like a rookie trying to bump the dock.
Has anyone had similar problems with the newer ultrashift or know how to keep the tranny from lurching in reverse?
Any recommendations?
Thanks,
LWM

Think @Cranky Yankee has an auto KWhopper. He might give you advice. I drove a 1st gen T2000 that had the issues you described so I still am not a fan but I know the new ones have really improved.

One of my best friends just spent a month in a 2016 Pete ISX auto. He complained daily about it jumping every time he used reverse.

There are two variances in Automated Manuals but both are way better than 15yrs ago.
Autoshift = 3 pedal with clutch
Ultrashift = 2 pedal automatic clutch control
If you want the clutch, go for Autoshift.
I had a autoshift in my last truck and miss it greatly, so much more simplistic to drive without rowing gears. My 13 speed is great but I'd trade it anyday to have my automated manual trans back.
Actually I just spec'd a truck out on friday with a AMT. This will probably be the last manual trans I own, the new autos are such a better trans all around, ...especially since you're the owner and can remove all the lockouts in the software.Lone Pope McRunfast Thanks this. -
Lone Pope, I have a ultrashift in my 660. They now have a creep mode, just have to make sure it is turned on in the transmission ecu. When I took delivery of my truck it was turned on for reverse but not for forward gears, simple fix by dealer, plug in and turn that option on. In creep mode you just have to give the engine enough throttle to get the truck moving then take your foot off of the throttle and it will idle in gear.

Yep, make sure reverse creep mode is enabled. We have many customers that love their autoshifts. It is hard to get an unbiased or positive opinion from customers that love to shift their own manual trans. No matter how great an auto is, some owners will always prefer a manual trans and therefore you have to take their opinion with a grain of salt.

Then control module glitches up that you can't move out from neutral.

Hey, I really appreciate this info. I think I'm going to go with the Ultrashift. I've done a little further research with Eaton and,KW, and they are telling me kind of the same info. So I can basically set up the ECU to my tastes and go from there. Makes much good sense to me.
Guilty, I too was a nay Sayer about the automatics based on what I had driven. I've only driven the new ones bobtail...
Thanks again!!Heavyd Thanks this. -
I love the 680,and it does take a while,to master granny mode.Mine has been in the shop for fuel issues, and the oil filter looked like a grenade was detonated inside.
Both trucks issued to me where powered by paccar motors.Other than the breakdowns at 90k mileage, great truck.Lone Pope McRunfast Thanks this.
