Was too many margaritas the night before, for me the other day. Company knocks my pay for lunch anyway, might as well take a nap. Been too hot to eat this week

When I worked for Pepsi, I once decided to get a cat nap so I parked my truck under some shade trees in a parking lot and stretched out across the bench seat. One of the other Pepsi drivers saw me, comes creeping up in his rig and blew the air horn.

He said "Since you've got nothing better to do, want to help me hook up some BIB's? (Bag in box) I'll buy you lunch."

Figured a free lunch beat a nap so I took him up on it, lol.

That's the right answer. Driving daycabs and running local is the worst trucking job in the world. I'm not joking about that either.

Coming from the same guy that says he despises unions, it makes sense. I bust my ### off for 8-9 hours, then I go home. Usually off by 2 or 3 pm. You seem well respected around here so I'll be nice, but I would go back to working in the sewer before taking another otr job. I'm gonna keep paying my union dues and enjoying my lifestyle and benefits. You enjoys yours in good health. Mean that

The guys running day cabs might just have an appointment like you and needs to burn some time, if it doubles they are probably on the extra bored and are burnt out.
I cover line runs and if I'm tiered at 3 am guess what? I take a nap.

Oh and local driving is the best job to have because if you ever decide you don't like it you can get an otr job in all of about a day.

I received a post card in the mail yesterday from Central States; you probably did to. Doesn't apply to me any more, but the pension fund is bankrupt and benefits and retirement checks are in big trouble and going to be cut and unspecified amount soon.
As for OTR, it's not suitable for everyone, but it was for me. I didn't fare well running local and stayed exhausted and frustrated dealing with traffic and idiot customers, plus intervals between shifts left little time for rest and quality family time. I've always liked to move around, so OTR was right for me. Lived in several states, those with no personal income taxes and finally settled in Las Vegas and Beijing. Still get the itch to move around, but "Father Time" is signalling me to slow down.
I respect you drivers that can deal with local driving for a career, but I can't hack it.

It's all about finding the right run or the right town buba. And as far as unions go there is good and bad just like everything else. I wouldn't count on that pension but I wouldnt count on ssi either.

Also when I'm making double overtime at 47 dollars an hour I really like traffic and scumbag customers, and that happens every week.

That's true. I worked hard and saved and purchased some rental property in USA and China to compensate in case the SSI senario plays out as you suggest. Have to have a backkup plan, you know.
