I am going to download it. I have all my drivers backed up already.

I will let you all know how it works on a 8 year old computer.

i don't think it'll install on your 8 year old machine. it might have the required specs. but there's technological requirements, SUPPOSEDLY, that weren't around back then.

i know 8 wouldn't install on my 5 year old machine or 2 year old laptop.

Keep us posted. I'd like to know if it installs. I'll put it on my laptop if it's available for purchase. Don't look like any machines are available as of yet

It will work with any computer that originally came with Windows 7 or Windows 8. All you need to do to check though is click the little Windows 10 notification icon down in the bottom-right to have it check your system readiness though. And you need to "reserve" yours there too if you want the free one. If you have Win XP then you won't have that little icon, but then again you're not probably going to want to pay $120 for it anyway.

If you put Windows 7 or Windows 8 already on your computer yourself and it works, then there is still a 99% chance that Windows 10 will also work.

The free one applies to Win 7, 8, 8.1 and Windows 8 mobile. NOT for Windows RT though.

You won't lose Solitaire - it replaces the old one with an updated version of it.

Windows has a common legend that every other version blows. And true to the legend, all initial signs for Win 10 are very positive. (good article from CNet ---> HERE)

The beta has been out for so long that the subsystem vendors have lots of drivers out there. That doesn't seem to be the big issue that Windows 7 and 8 had either.

Only concern I have with it so far around a new capability called "WiFi Sense" that is intended to allow you and your trusted "friends" to share each other's WiFi connections seamlessly. I have a security concern with ANY form of automatic doorways to my machine, so I will be leaving that feature off until I get some more data on that.

Personally from a tech standpoint, this is what I have been telling the drivers already calling us for advice on it:
    - If you have Windows 7 and like it, stay with it for a few months until Windows 10 service pack one inevitably arrives. Or stay with it indefinitely. It will still be supported for years.
    - If you have Windows 8, I would go ahead a do the upgrade because Windows 8 makes most people nuts and Windows 10 brings back some familiar stuff (like the Start Menu) that people were missing.
    - If you have XP (as I do still on 3 machines) then its a crap-shoot. I would say that if you have at least a dual-core processor and at least 2 Gb of Ram that I would bet it will run Windows 10. Naturally, more Ram would be better. Ram is cheap and easy to upgrade. Splurge the $40 and put in at least 4 Gb.
    - And as a side note on Windows XP, it still works well for many users. Just make sure that you installed every possible update. Put a good PAID anti-virus program on it, and STOP using Internet Explorer 8 altogether. Use Chrome, Safari, or Firefox for your browser.

Get Linux. It's free, more secure, and better. Tons of distros to choose from. Here's one of the best: http://linuxmint.com/

linux isn't very user friendly for those of us that don't want to learn a whole new system. and software lacks.

linux is more for the tech savy. even the people running chromebooks are having a hard time with it.

i got 10 on a 2 year old laptop. but it's a no go for my for my desktop. which was built before 7 was released. and just got a new hard drive with 4 gigs.
