Dont give up all hope guys! Not all of us newbies are like that. Maybe its because i'm older than most of the ones your talking about. They seem to run in the mid 20's(unless they are foreign, then they seem to be older but no less of what you describe) And no, I am not a racist, just following with the generalizations. I do look for guys like you, the ones that "look" like they have been doing this for a while. It's not just how they dress, its how they carry themselves, a certain air of confidence. And yes, a bit of disgust with those "others". A good friend tried to give me crap the last time I was home" you look more like a truck driver every time I see you". I told him the truth, I'd have to wear flip flops, shorts and a muscle shirt to look like most drivers! I do wear boots, jeans or carhart pants, and usually a cowboy hat. I agree with you that pants and boots are part of the "uniform".(and to everyone, ALL jobs have some kind of "uniform") Just hang in there guys, we may be fewer than either of us would like, but there are a few of us newbies who are willing to listen and want to learn. WE still need to know we arent holding the bag alone! Some of us do still look up to those of you who dont have to talk about how good you are, you just do it!:biggrin_25514:

I agree with you...There are a LOT of newbies out there who are wise beyond there experience and IMO they will be the ones 20 years from now still keeping it all together while the flip flop crowd have changed occupations 20 times since they were "steering wheel holders"....I have learned a TON off of young guys/gals and newbies on here in just a few short months and I'm learning more everyday from some of them.New and eager is not bad.New,dirty and a know it all in 2 months is bad.:biggrin_25525:

Well I guess I do not fit into either group (no flip flops and no cowboy boots). Imo they are both goofy. If your not riding a horse or walking through the desert you have no need of cowboy boots (sounds like a horse walking through the truckstop hallways clip clop, clip clop, anyway). Same goes for the goof balls with the flip flops. They belong on the beach or in the shower not in a truck, truckstop, customer, or fuel island. The rest of us have no desire to see or "smell" your feet.

Of course I belong to a small subset of drivers that do not conform to the "status quo" and never will. We dress approriately to the job. The whole "cowboy image (thank God) is dying out and none too soon.

For those of you interested the appropriate attire for a "trucker" today; it is work pants, oil resistant, slip resistant work boots or shoes, and a clean work shirt preferably with a pocket for your pen and notebook. Notice there is no mention of a cowboy hat either? Again not necessary unless your riding the range and need the hat to double as a water bowl for your horse and or to keep the blazing sun off your neck and ears.

All I can do is laugh when I see some joker wearing chaps and spurs in the truckstop with a big 10 gallon hat. Saw that at the TA out in Missouri a few years back. Must have been going to a costume party or something.

Dang your right they need to wear their Company uniforms with Co.name and allso their name this is to help locate the truck and to spell their name right.:biggrin_2559:But if I go and buy a truck pay the notes and Ins.Ill wear my stetson hat cowboy but proper name is western boots, blue jeans an denim shirt.Well one thing your right about Company Drivers should dress nice.O/O dress like a Cowboy which to me looks better and lasts longer than those Company uniforms.Like the Brown ones with shorts.
