It should be there and activated, to kick the cruise off when you press the clutch in

Im surprised that truckers opt not to get jakes, I guess if all the truck see's is flat lands I guess it would be ok. But as for me I use them all the time ( -minus truckstops :p )

They don't all have them. Many big fleets order without them. When I worked ay Con-way, all of the S60's, right up to the end of the S60 did not come with any jakes. ON the plus side, it made valve adjustments easier. On some engines, like the Acerts, the brakes were part of the intake actuator housings, so they were there, just no switches in the cab. For the Detroits, unfortunately, they ordered the engines without jakes.

Careful, the same year series 60 might have 3 different parts depending on the specific engine model (mk, pk, etc) and valve & injector settings.

Same point as not speccing other options. Keeps the purchase price down. For a large company ordering a hundred or more trucks every year, it's hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in savings.

you are correct. the jake brake must be chosen according engine model number. he was talking about 2009 year model truck. I know in 2008-2009 only one model on-highway engine was produced by DD. and that was 6067HG6E . I can be wrong. 6067HG6E enginee has 797B jake brake.

For big fleets, I guess the easiest way to keep drivers from using jakes on snow and ice is to not have them.

I have worked for a decent size fleet and some mom and pops, just never been in any "newer" truck without jakes. So ill be honest I am just a bit surprised. Having jakes especially living in the North west is a #### requirement in my book.

If I ever went back to being a company driver for any company if there tractors did not have them they would be scratched off the list quick.

I quit Con-way about 5 years ago and they did not have them, but I heard rumor that starting in 2010, they had them. Maybe they finally figured out that it might be easier to keep good drivers if they stopped treating them all like idiots for the actions of a few.
