I think most of the major LTL outfits have a terminal in W-B/Scranton somewhere. Have you looked into R &L? They've got a big yard in Pittston.

UPS Freight right down the road in Scranton. Not sure if hiring but worth a shot.

oil field to union LTL. of course you think its a drastic pay demotion. who the heck wants to log 100 hours a week in the oil field. make better wages if union LTLs allowed that non sense 100 hour work weeks
but you asked for a alternative,
Apply for UPS as a Parcel or feeder driver.Last edited: Aug 16, 2015

If it hadn't been for my divorce I would have been able to retire by the time I was 48 years old which is not something that most LTL drivers could have done but since I was forced to come back to Pennsylvania my retirement plans are now on hold until my kids turn 18 at which point my career can then resume. I personally don't feel like working until the day I die. My original plans involved retiring before my kids got into high school.

I actually know about all of these different companies out here in this area but what I don't know about is the actual numbers that are actually possible to generate. I realize that the days of making 1900 dollars a week and being home every day are pretty much over and done with since R&L carriers gave all the good runs to their team drivers, but what I'm actually looking for is real world numbers of actual job opportunities in this area from people that are actually doing the job and home with their families every night.

UPS keeps tabs on these boards so PM me. Don't have any info on parcel but I can answer any of the freight questions.

You will most likely starve for the first year starting out at most LTLs including UPS freight.
