When you have learners permit you can drive trailer truck as far as someone who has CDL is supervising you. Is not that correct? And learners permit is learners permit. So why it should be restricted for me?
I am going to do this and change it to manual but for now I need to clarify. I asked florida. DMV and they told me florida does not indicate on licence whether it is manual or automatic. So I might move there or any state soon. I must get rid of NY. I moved to NJ and I became happier. Farther I go from NYC happier I am becoming -
If you have a permit to allow you to legally operate a manual transmission, the properly licensed driver has to be in the jump seat. So he can drive his shift, then you drive yours...but then the truck has to park for 10. It'll burn through his 70 pretty quick, too, so plan on taking a 34 every couple days since every minute the truck is rolling, he'd have to be on duty.

Learners permit does not distinguish manual from automatic.

If you want to one day work for a good company you need to Lear to drive a manual. I think it's ridiculous that these schools are teaching new drivers on autos
-
If you have a class A cdl with an automatic only restriction, you'd need another class A learners permit to operate a manual transmission. There is no distinction on a permit, because you haven't tested yet...and don't get the restriction unless you test in an automatic.
Bottom line, your school F'd you by having you test in an automatic. You should have refused to test, or after-the-fact I'd be wanting a refund since the license you got through them severely limits your options going forward. -
More ridiculous is that they taught me manual but tested on F@ autos. But here is deal. In Florida it does not matter what you test on you still get licence with no restriction on it. This New York pioneers first in every ####

Most companies require you to test in a manual,to avoid any restriction.
After you acquire the cdl,you can request an automatic truck.Obviously if the whole fleet is auto..they couldnt care less about the restriction. -
New rules starting july 2015,require the restriction in every state.

The company was cheap, and didnt want to pay for a retest for all the failed tests,so they requested automatic trucks
