how is that being helpful?
to u, but that doesn't help folks who aren't here to joke. this thread is for those who can relate. would u mind staying on topic & helping out vs not helping?

My best year I hauled 5000 units with no damage. I have paper to back up said. I have earned the right to joke when I want and to be serious when I want. Feel free to ask for experienced advice. I also give that out for free.
Did you have a question ?Maverick Griff, Blackshack46, HeWhoMustNotBeNamed and 3 others Thank this. -
Solid Cold - I just looked you over and you're all over the map here - care to tell us a bit more about yourself ?
HeWhoMustNotBeNamed and MrBill103 Thank this. -
Ok, I guess my point was it is like a catch 22. How do you get experience when they won't let you get the experience. I personally drove a wrecker for a few weeks, then to a 2 car rollback, then a 4 car rollback and after years of that they finally put me in a carrier. That's one way to get the experience needed for car haul, another would be to go to a school and be trained to do it.Pullin2, HeWhoMustNotBeNamed and KANSAS TRANSIT Thank this.

Then I guess I'm full of ####. But I'm not looking to break into Carhaul, you are. And I have news for you. In the auto hauling industry, layoffs are a reality. The Auto Industry in general is very cyclical.
But like you hinted at, I don't know what I'm talking about.Pullin2, HeWhoMustNotBeNamed and Hammer166 Thank this. -
Unfortunately, that's true of far more than just the car hauling side of the industry, and can be blamed for a lot of the job hopping that takes place.Pullin2 and HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thank this.

there are forums / threads specifically for joking; this aint one. any helpful info will be helpful, not only for me, but others who may read here. this thread is serious, so u can be serious here. the only question i have is can u acknowledge & reply based on my 1st post here, in a serious / helpful manner?
not sure if u're being sarcastic or that's an unknown phrase that i can't make out, but that's a question u wouldnt've ask if u looked me over, including read this thread

thanks for clarifying that. it seemed like u were being funny in a non helpful way. it seems hard to get into towing without experience too. + u didn't mention the fees & licenses needed to tow. i've tried some of the big companies in nashville & the closest i've gotten was an interview, which turned out to be filing a discrimination complaint [won't mention the name for now for confidential reasons]. i've applied with a company occasionally for 2 years, yet they don't seem to want to hire brothers
i only found 1 school in the US that specifically trains in auto transport, yet ironically you have to have 2 1/2 years exp
if people who have drove that long had common sense, i don't think that school would exist & make $! as mentioned, Cassens hires graduates [*from an accredited cdl school]. so that's validation. if there's a school that trains without exp, please tell! -
for u to acknowledge that shows that if even the biggest auto trans companies lay off, then one would have to be knowledgeable & have a plan b. had i not known that, it may have never been told until too late
not once did i hint u didn't know your stuff. quote me if i did -
@SOLID C0LD , one of the qualifications for being a good carhauler is that you need to be an arrogant #######. I just goes with the territory. The guys you are giving crap for being irreverent also happen to be a couple of the more knowledgeable guys about carhaul on here. It's just we how we are around here, and getting your back up isn't going to help you.
As far as getting hired with little experience, you would be better to just take whatever you can get. I'll tell you that only those who are naturals at driving a truck stand much of chance at being able to learn to drive and haul cars at the same time. There's multiple threads on here as to why, that some searching and reading will find. If you think you got what it takes, beat on some doors, and stick with whoever you can get on with for a couple years, and you can then more or less pick and choose who to work for.
P.S. While the union outfits do layoffs, don't think the biannual slowdowns won't effect you, no matter who you work for in this industry. We barely had a slowdown last year, but this year we're in week 5 of very low volume. It's the nature of carhaul. No we don't lay anyone off, but it dang sure drops everyones's income.
